It’s not often that you watch a movie and immediately say “Now, give me a sequel,” after the credits roll, but that was the case for certain fans of the psychological thriller Acrimony that was released in 2018. Written, produced and directed by Tyler Perry, it follows a wife who attempts to murder her ex-husband when he leaves her after becoming a financial success. Viewers felt there was the potential to follow up on the events of the ending and anticipation has been simmering ever since.

Acrimony 2: Bitter poster is a fake

A blogger on Facebook recently shared an alleged poster for a movie titled Acrimony 2: Bitter. It details that the film will come from Rico Knight and Tyler Perry, due to premiere “Christmas 2023″.

However, the poster is fan-made and isn’t official. Nevertheless, the poster has currently earned 38k shares and 87.4k reactions, along with a wealth of comments from fans eagerly awaiting it.

“I’m ready,” one commented. “Say what you will but Taraji [P. Henson, who plays the central character Melinda Moore Gayle] is one of the hardest working women in show business.”

“Been waiting,” another agreed, with another adding “definitely a must-see!” Plenty have also weighed in saying they “Can’t wait.”

On the other hand, some have pointed out that the poster isn’t authentic and official. “This is just a concept poster,” a fan pointed out, “not real. This would be crazy though.”

“I knew this wasn’t real because Tyler Perry would never think to go up against Oprah and The Color Purple and release on the same day.”

Is Acrimony 2: Bitter officially confirmed?

Neither Tyler nor none of the original Acrimony cast have announced that a sequel to the 2018 movie is in development.

Needless to say, there won’t be a follow-up premiering on Christmas Day this year.

Tyler has been known to do sequels to his films, and as recently as 2022 he directed, wrote,
and starred in A Madea Homecoming. Still, no concrete confirmation on another Acrimony, and it’s not that fans haven’t reached out to ask.

Responding to one of Tyler’s tweets on the success of the Amazon Prime Video Original Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, a fan asked “Question that needs answering… Is there going to be an Acrimony II called Bitter? If so, OMG that would be so nice… my friend keeps sending me stuff showing me these promos but I think it’s fake.”

The promo they’re referring to is likely the aforementioned fake poster.

Others have taken to Twitter under the impression it’s happening. “Acrimony Bitter coming out on Christmas, that should be good,” a tweet reads that was posted the same day.

Unfortunately, Acrimony fans will simply have to remain hopeful, but chances of a second installment are becoming increasingly slim.
