A large number of viewers are under the impression that Pauline, an original program that Disney+ recently unveiled is a movie about a girl getting pregnant by a devil, while it is actually a series.
The plotline of the German show has stirred quite a lot of reactions from the conservatives, as they find issues with a young girl developing feelings for satan as well as getting pregnant with his child. However, Disney+‘s ordered series has also piqued the interest of a different category of audience, who have found the story to be unique and appealing.
Disney+ original about a girl getting pregnant by a devil isn’t a movie
As opposed to what many think, the Disney+ original that follows the story of an eighteen-year-old girl who gets impregnated by a devil is a German series, unveiled by the network in April 2023.
Deadline reports, the series is created by the same team behind Netflix‘s How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) – a comedy-drama with three seasons under its belt.
The script for Pauline is written by Sebastian Colley with Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann serving as the executive producers.
The German series is said to showcase up-and-coming talents including Sira-Anna Faal in the lead role of Pauline, Ludger Bökelmann as Lukas the satan, and Lukas von Horbatschewsky.
Pauline’s plotline explored
Pauline’s storyline has especially attracted the attention of fantasy-fiction fans, as the story navigates supernatural factors along with a teen pregnancy story arc.
Its synopsis on IMDb reads: “Pauline 18-year-old- accidentally becomes pregnant from a one-night stand with Lukas, who, as it turns out, is the devil himself. The pregnancy gives Pauline supernatural powers and an epic battle between good and evil ensues.”
The show creators couldn’t be more thrilled about Disney+ providing its platform for their “coming-of-age story”, Käßbohrer and Murmann said.
“For a long time, the series has been and still remains a project very close to our heart,” they added.
The unreleased series draws immense attention
As noted previously, Pauline has clearly divided the audience with its unique yet controversial plotline.
One Twitter user who isn’t impressed with Pauline’s plot wrote: “Woah – Walt Disney has a new show called Pauline that is about an 18-year-old impregnated by Satan – what’s next.”
Another said: “I don’t why everybody is making a big deal out of the Disney show about a teen girl getting pregnant by the devil. We liked Twilight. Are vampires okay but?”
“It’s called Pauline. kinda disturbing that Disney greenlit it even if it is for adults,” wrote a third user.
