Gilgo Beach Killer is a suspected serial killer who is said to have murdered between 10 to 18 people over a period of nearly 16 years. He is believed to have disposed of their bodies in areas on the South Shore of Long Island, New York, US.

The victims’ remains were discovered near the remote beach towns of Gilgo and Oak Beach in Suffolk County.

American architect Rex Heuermann lives in Massapequa Park. He worked in Manhattan. He was arrested as the Gilgo Beach murderer suspect. He is identified as the notorious Long Island serial killer.

He was taken into custody on 13 July 2023 because of being accused of killing three women. He committed the Gilgo Beach murders. He was charged with killing three women. 

He is found main suspect in the murder of a fourth. The dead bodies were found unearthed near remote Gilgo Beach on Long Island’s South Shore more than a decade ago.

Investigators tried to determine whether the killings were committed by one person or by multiple attackers. The cases had been unsolved for more than a decade.

Rex was charged with 3 counts of first-degree murder along with three counts of second-degree murder in the murder of Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman, and Melissa Barthelemy.

The dead bodies were found discovered wrapped in hunting camouflage burlap a quarter mile from each other on a stretch of beach.

The fourth woman Maureen Brainard-Barnes was 25 years old who went missing in July 2007. Rex was not charged in the killing of Brainard-Barnes but he is the prime suspect in her death.

Rex Heuermann had been arrested in Midtown Manhattan on 13 July 2023’s night and he appeared on 14 July 2023 afternoon in a Suffolk County courthouse. He spoke in a low voice in the court to identify himself.

According to Investigators, they found Rex as a suspect using not only DNA but technology that pinpointed the locations of disposable cellular phones. Rex used to contact the victims in the hours before they disappeared.

“Rex Heuermann is a demon that walks among us, a predator that ruins families.”

Ms. Barthelemy was found discovered dead on 11 December 2020 and two days later, the police found other three women.

police also found in the same year, the remains of Valerie Mack who was a 24-year-old mother from Southern New Jersey. She had paid the bills as an escort and she had been missing for 20 years.

The other 6 other people including 4 women, one man, and a 2-year-old girl’s remains were also unearthed in the months that followed.
