How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

I love putting together my kids’ costumes so they’re cute, comfortable, and a bit original. But like most of us busy people, it ain’t going to happen unless the costume is easy to put together.

This semi-homemade Tinkerbell costume is just that and she loved it!

How to make a Tinkerbell Costume:

The only part that I made was the leaf skirt. Everything else was purchased, but it still looks so original!

Supplies List:

  • 3 different shades of green fabric. I was able to find some with glitter and some silky fabric for the leaves and stuck with a regular cotton for the band. I like that it added a little pixie dust to the costume. The amount you need will depend on the size of your child. My daughter was 3 1/3 when she wore this and I was able to get by with 3 leaves of each color.
  • Green leotard or bathing suit like this one
  • White tights
  • Silver Sparkle Shoes: I hot glued a white pom-pom onto them. Make sure you pick out comfortable shoes that won’t hurt when they walk a lot.
  • Tinker bell wings
  • Sock (for sock bun)

Steps to make a Tinkerbell Costume

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

You will use one shade of green for the waist band and the other two will be for the leaves (alternating every other one.)

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

For the waist band cut 2 3 inch wide strips (the length will depend on the size of your little one.) Sew them down one long side, turn right side out and iron flat. Do not sew the other side.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

For the leaves make a template with a piece of paper. (The size of the leaf will also depend on the size of your kid). For each leaf you will cut 2 pieces of fabric.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Place one cut leaf on top of the other (right sides touching/facing in) and sew them together leaving one side alone. Snip off the tip of the leaf with scissors and turn right side out, then iron it flat.

You will repeat this for each leaf. (I used 6 leaves for my daughter who was 3 1/2 at the time).

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Go back to the waist band, fold each side of the unfinished seam in about a 1/2 inch and iron so it’s easier to work with.

Place the leaves inside the unfinished seam of the waist band and pin in place. Then run it through your sewing machine about a 1/4 inch from the bottom edge of the waist band.

Fold the ends of the waist band in and sew. (I used a safety pin to hold the leaf skirt on my little girl. You could sew on a button or a piece of velcro if you want).

She put on the leaf skirt over her green leotard and tights and put on her pom-pom shoes. I pulled her hair up high on her head in a ponytail, then used a rolled up sock to make a thick bun just like Tinkerbell. The wings and some glitter on her face was the final touch!

She was thrilled!

Things You’ll Need:

Green Leotard
White Tights
White Turtleneck
Green Ballet Flats
Glitter
Craft Pom Poms
Fabric Glue
Cardboard
Stapler
Ribbon
Green Fabric Paint
Elastic
Magic Wand
Wings
Drawstring Satchel

Putting Together your Tinkerbell Costume:

Step 1: First, you need to find your base clothing items the white tights and turtle neck should be easy. The green ballet flats and leotard can usually be found online. If you can only find white ballet flats, you paint them green white fabric paint. If you can only find a white leotard you can dye your leotard green with fabric dye, which is sold in the laundry section of most grocery stores.

Step 2: You will also need a magic wand and wings. You can make a magic wand by wrapping a stick in ribbon and decorating it. You can make wings out of cardboard. Cut wings in one piece and attach arm straps to the center of the wings with a stapler. The arms straps work best when made of elastic. Paint the wings with green glitter paint. You also buy both of these accessories at a costume shop.

Step 3: To give your shoes that extra Tinkerbell touch you will need to attach a pom pom to each one. Use fabric glue to attach one white pom pom to each shoe.

Step 4: Get a little bag or satchel and fill it with glitter. This will be your pixie dust.

Hey Sparkles, how are you doing today? I am going to tell you how to make a cute Tinkerbell Halloween costume. I made mine for an American girl doll, but you can adjust the size to fit a baby, child, tween, teen, or even adult. Here goes, and I hope my instructions are clear and understandable to you.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Tinkerbell Costume Materials:

  • Green Fabric – 2 Yards should be plenty
  • Green Tulle – 1 Roll
  • Straight pins
  • Green thread
  • White Pom-poms – You will need two of these for the shoes
  • Sewing machine
  • Velcro
  • Pencil or pen
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • Sharp cloth scissors
  • Paper scissors
  • Pattern – Download here

Tinkerbell Costume Procedure:

  1. Download the pattern and resize according to your needs.
  2. Cut out pattern pieces on paper and outline onto the backside of the fabric.
  3. Cut out the pieces from fabric. You will need to cut out nine leaves at whatever size you have.
  4. Layer the leaves side by side, in a weaving fashion. Do one over, one under.
  5. Pin the leaves together in the position you have laid them.
  6. Sew tops of leaves together, taking out the pins as you go.
  7. Pin and sew a doubled over piece of tulle over the top of the shirt.
  8. Make artistic cuts up the tulle to look like leaves.
  9. Cut out the shirt pattern from paper, again resizing as necessary.
  10. Outline the pattern pieces onto the fabric and cut out.
  11. Sew the edges of the shirt pieces together inside out.
  12. Cut down the center of the shirt back.
  13. Sew Velcro onto the shirt, adjusting for size as necessary.
  14. Sew the sides of the panties inside out, then flip and put on.
  15. Ta-Da! You are done with the Tinkerbell costume!

How to Be Tinkerbell this Halloween in Ten Minutes or Less

The enchanting Tinkerbell is always a popular choice every Halloween. Ask any costume store and they’ll show you a collection of Tinkerbell Halloween costumes. It’s probably Tinkerbell’s fragile playfulness, the naughtiness of her magic, or her understated heroine factor.

Whatever the case, many girls, both young and young at heart, have their own Tinkerbell phase. While others choose to be scary or gory or intense, some just like to be the plain tiny but ever-loyal Tinkerbell. After all, it’s the tiny little beings that can get in the eyes.

The never-ending appeal of this friendly fairy from Neverland goes back as far as 1904 when J.M. Barrie first created Tinkerbell’s character in his novel Peter Pan. Ever since, we’ve always been fascinated the promise of flight as Tink generously sprinkles us with her magic pixie dust.

Tinkerbell Halloween costumes don’t have to be costly. You can buy them from any Halloween costume stores, or even make at your own home. With just a few available materials, you can turn your mom’s old skirts into Tinkerbell Halloween costumes.

Instant Tinkerbell Halloween costumes

– Old skirt you don’t mind cutting short (traditionally, Tinkerbell’s dress is light green, but any color will do)

– Bendable, but not too soft wire

– White see-through old stockings

– Light-blue and silver sequins

– Silver ribbon (about 3 yards)

– Gold glitter as pixie dust

– Glue gun or plain glue

1. Zigzag-cut an old but decent skirt at the hem, three or four inches above the knee, or as short as you can be comfortable in.

2. Carefully fashion some wires into a pair of wings, making sure they are both the same shape and size. Twist and tie the ends with the pliers.

3. Sew the garter onto the wing. Make sure the armhole fits snugly.

4. Next, stretch some old stockings over the wire until they’re taut.

5. Glue some sequins onto the wings in a sort of leaf vein pattern.

6. Prepare the magic wand by wrapping an ordinary stick with silver ribbon. Glue on both ends of the stick. For the tip, gather about ten 12-inch strips of the same ribbon, tie into one end and let sprout and fall freely.

7. For a more regal Tinkerbell Halloween costume, you can also wear a tiara, some glitters on your skin, and a pair of white doll shoes.

8. Tinkerbell Halloween costumes aren’t complete without a bag of gold glitter you sprinkle on people as fairy dust.

Steps

  1. Purchase or make a simple green sleeveless dress or tube top and skirt and matching sleek, house slippers or ballet slippers. If you choose to make your dress or top and skirt, purchasing or designing a pattern and lime green material will be necessary.
  2. Grab your best scissors and start cutting a leaf shaped fringe into the bottom edge of the dress or skirt. If you are nervous about cutting the material, use a washable pen or marker to outline the shape of your cuts, or just cutting small plain triangles works well.
  3. Use metal clothes hangers or other wire to form the frame of the wings. Cover your wing frames with white pantyhose by stretching the hose open and slipping the frame inside. Tie off the hose and cut away excess ends.
    • Using a blue spray paint, lightly spray around the edges of the wings. If you want to make your wings sparkly, add some silver or blue glitter to the spray paint before it dries.
    • Glue the wings on costume or use ribbon or elastic to fashion loops to put your arms through.
  4. Grab a wooden chopstick or use a wooden spoon for a wand. You might consider using the blue spray paint and some glitter on the spoon too. Of course, you can always buy a wand at the store in the Halloween costumes section or toy aisles, but where’s the fun in that?
  5. Pull your hair up into a high pony tail. Wrap your hair around your pony tail holder to create a bun and use bobby pins or another hair tie to hold it in place. Pull the fringe of your hair out of the bun gently to create a “messy” look. Considering using thin to medium green ribbon to tie a small bow around the whole thing.
  6. Complete your look by using a light, shimmery foundation to emulate Tink’s flawless skin.
    • Add green or purple eyeshadow, black mascara and black eyeliner for dramatic eyes.
    • Or, tone it down a bit and use a shimmery silver eyeshadow and brown mascara and eyeliner for a more subtly, earthy look.
    • Don’t forget a peach blush and light, glimmering pink lip gloss!

Video

  • You may want to purchase a fairly inexpensive dress or skirt for this costume. Spending $100 on a dress just to cut seems pretty silly.
  • Tinkerbell is a pretty dainty, petite character, so you should avoid large belts and heavy jewelry that will detract from this look. Thin necklaces, small earring, and slim bracelets will do if you really want to add accents.
  • Although Tinkerbell doesn’t usually wear tights, you may want to. Choosing white, silver, pale pink, or nude tights or hose will definitely compliment the overall look.

Things You’ll Need

  • Green Dress or Top and Skirt
  • Matching Green House Slippers or Ballet Slippers
  • Scissors
  • Hair ties and Bobby Pins
  • Green Ribbon (optional)
  • Wire Clothes Hangers or other bendable (not flimsy) wire
  • White Hose
  • Blue Spray Paint
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Chopstick, Wooden Spoon, or Wand
  • Make-up

Well folks, I can’t help it…I have to show off my daughter’s Halloween-costume-cuteness. Here’s our beautiful little Tinkerbell!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Tinkerbell was her favorite out of all the characters she met at Disney last month, so I decided to attempt to make a toddler Tinkerbell costume for her. Here’s the pattern I bought to use for the costume. Definitely more time consuming than her no-sew little black cat costume I threw together last year, but it’s just so stinkin’ cute!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

I am a complete sewing novice, so I enlisted the help of my mother-in-law (who is an amazingly talented seamstress!) to guide me along the way! She helped me select the right fabrics and notions, cut out the pattern, gave me chunks of sewing “homework” that I could handle, then came and helped to get it all assembled. I certainly couldn’t have done this on my own! But I am proud that I had a hand in sewing it. 🙂 And I learned a lot along the way!

If you’d like to see how the pieces of the costume came together, I posted some photos on Instagram using the hashtag #addyshalloweencostume.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Using some leftover fabric, I sewed a simple drawstring bag (all by myself!) for her to use as a candy bag. Of course, I couldn’t resist using my trusty dusty Silhouette to cut out some heat transfer vinyl and dress it up a bit!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

There was a pattern for wings included in the Simplicity pattern, but I was concerned they wouldn’t be sturdy enough…so I found these wings on Amazon for a great price. They were perfect!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

It was totally worth the time put into this costume to see her face light up when she gets to put on her Tinkerbell dress. I have a feeling this one will be a dress-up staple until she outgrows it!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Happy Halloween from our little Tinkerbell! Hope you and your family have a fun one!

UPDATE: Take a walk down memory lane with me to browse through all of my daughter’s DIY Halloween Costumes!

This is a sweet little girl’s fairy costume I made for my DD and thought I would share with you. The photos just do not do this outfit any justice as it is so much prettier to see in person. It sews up quickly and is made very simply without a pattern. I have made a few fairy costumes using the same simple method with great results.

All of the pieces of fabric are rectangles, including the petal shaped tulle tier. I cut the petal shapes after cutting out the rectangle. The bodice is made from a stretch dance fabric and the skirt is 3 layers – satin, snowflake organza and tulle. All the fabrics are in a Tinkerbell green except for the white organza. The skirt layers are gathered and then sewn onto the bodice before hemming. The straps are a pair of clear adjustable bra straps to make the outfit more like the original Tink dress, but allow free play without worries of the dress falling down.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

To make Tink’s wings I scanned a Disney Tinker bell doll’s wings and then enlarged them to print out poster size. I then cut the wings from a large sheet of clear acetate, sprayed it with clear varnish and sprinkled it with holographic glitter before the varnish dried. To give the wings more stability and define the edges I taped wire all the way around. Lastly I punched a few holes in the center and inserted elastic so the wings could be put on and removed with ease.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

I completed the Tinkerbell Fairy costume with a pair of Tink green slippers and a sparkly pom pom? I just traced around my DD foot, added about 2″(5cm) all round, then using 3 step zig zag I applied the elastic. I made a couple of cute pom poms from glitter wool and attached them to the slippers by hand.

To really make Tinkerbell fly, she needs her hair in a bun and tied with Tinkerbell green ribbon!

This was such a fun and easy costume to make and would be great for anyone beginning to sew. Just measure, cut and sew.

Edited
Due to popular demand for this costume I am working on step by step instructions complete with the pattern for the wings. For anyone wishing to purchase it please email me(address above) with Fairy Costume Pattern in the subject line and I can let you know when it becomes available. Thanks for your interest.

I know I can add some wings and sparkles, but does anyone have any really creative ideas on how to make my costume amazing?

well. id say cut to bottom up in a big zig zag pattern like how she has it. use the glitter to separate areas. if u have a good amount of left over fabric and u didn’t cut it all up. use the remaining fabric and cut a strip about 3 inches wide. fold over and iron the edges and then just sew up the smaller ends. it doesn’t have to be exact. add sparkles where ya sewed. and sparkle up the belt. just sparkle n e ends that look not so neat from ur cutting. it will cover ur mistakes up enough not to notice. if u have ribbon that’s green brown or what have u that is earthy or sparkly sometime in the year use that to add bows and ties where u want. wer some white or glittery nude tights. if u can find this item, maybe u can steel some from school or buy some for cheap. mesh fabric. add it under the skirt but make it pop out so that u can see it and cut as u see fit. if u have left over just add it to the bowed area in some way or use it for make up as u can make a really awesome design with mesh by taking a brush and stippling some colored shaddow as u hold the mesh to ur face.

get some type of sheer, sparkly, green fabric and a create a sort of tu-tu like, short, puffy bottom to the dress. also add some sparkles and gems around the neckline , that would look awesome.

also wear green tights so you can get away with having the skirt of the dress shorter. i wouldnt get a wand because tinker bell doesnt even have a wand and it would probably get annoying carrying it around.

for the shoes i would go for ballet slippers. 🙂

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

What does the dress look like? It needs to be strapless if possible. Definitely wear your hair up in the little ballerina bun like Tinkerbell does. Annnnd let’s see. you could get some little green flats or slippers and glue a poofy pom pom or something to the top to make her shoes. Make sure to wear some blush and eyeliner, Tink always looks a bit made up. And if your dress doesn’t have a tight waist, tie a ribbon or something to make a waist, it will just look more like her. Hope I helped!

Tutorial: How to Make Tinkerbell Slippers

Every pixie has to have a cute pair of slippers to go with her already gorgeous outfit, right? Well in just a few short and simple steps, you will have a pair of slippers that look just like Tinkerbell’s shoes! Now it is time to learn how to make your very own Tinker Bell slippers!

First off, you will need a few things:

  • A pair of slip on slippers
  • Some green fabric. (You will need about a yard).
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • (2) large-sized, white puff pom-poms (You can find them at any craft store! They usually come in a pack of 4.)

1. Now, this may all seem sloppy at first, but the end result is very beautiful. So don’t get frustrated! You are going to heat up your glue gun of course. While you are waiting for that, put one of the slippers on your foot. Then, take the fabric and lay it on top of your toe. Now there’s two ways you can go around this. One way is to take your hot glue gun and glue the fabric to the slipper and then just cut the excess fabric off. Then, you would take the fabric and cut out a large “U” shape and then glue it around the heel of your slipper and cover the rest. OR you can cut a hole into the fabric (Leave enough room around the hole to cover your shoe with). Stick your foot through the hole and then put your foot into the slipper and glue the fabric down that way. This is the method I used.

2. So you have your fabric over your slipper and your foot in the slipper. What you’re going to do is start by gluing the fabric to the TOE of your slipper. Then go to the outside of your foot, and glue the fabric over that side. Be sure to smooth it out as you go. Don’t worry if you have more than enough fabric bunching up at your heel. We will get to that bit later. After the outside, you’re going to start gluing the fabric on the other side. Continue to smooth the fabric out as you go along.

3. You’re going to end up with some fabric left over in the back. This is easily fixed. What you’re going to do is pull the excess fabric out and then fold it towards the inner side of your foot (The side of your foot with your big toe). Then you’re going to hot glue that down. Don’t worry about the seam! Every shoe has one. And since it’s on the inner side, it won’t show in any photos!

4. Now it’s time to get your foot out of there. VERY CAREFULLY cut a line from the hole that you made towards your toes. REMEMBER! Don’t cut into the slipper! Just cut far enough to where you can fold the fabric into the slipper (meaning under the top). You will do this again and make a “+” shape around the hole you cut into the fabric. Then you will cut the four pieces in half. You will end up with 8 flaps around your slipper.

5. It is now safe to take your foot out. Next step is to simply glue those flaps into the slipper! Simply fold them down and glue.

7. Last and not least, the white pom-pom! Put a lot of hot glue on the toe of the slipper. Be sure it’s not at the very edge of your slipper; you want to see a bit of green on the toe! Then press down on it for a couple seconds. Make sure the pom-pom is secure before you take your foot out of the slipper.

Viola! You now have your very own, special pair of Tinkerbell slippers!

Thanks to April for sharing her seamstress skills with us all so that you can add this realistic touch to your own Tinkerbell costume whether for a cosplay event or for Halloween! View the Tinkerbell sexy fairy costume shoot that April modeled for in one of our spotlights!

Quote of the Day: “This won’t do. What’s the matter with you? All it takes is faith and trust. Oh! And something I forgot. Just a little bit of pixie dust.” -Peter Pan

Tinkerbell is the petite pixie from Peter Pan that girls of all ages adore, especially after Disney’s animated adaptation. With her own fairy wings and special pixie dust she can fly, she can fly, she can fly! There are many styles of Tinkerbell costumes to purchase, but making your own version of this sassy sidekick’s outfit is truly special.

Items needed to make your Tinkerbell Costume

Items Needed:
Pale green leotard
Ѕ yard iridescent chiffon
Ѕ yard pale green tulle
Elastic, enough to fit waist
Fairy wings or white hose and coat hangers
Scrap cardboard
Craft paints
Ballet slippers

Step 1: Cut chiffon and tulle into 2–inch strips lengthwise. Measure elastic to fit child’s waist comfortably and secure with a knot. Alternate chiffon and tulle strips around the skirt, knotting onto elastic in middle of the fabric strip (save a few of the fabric strips for wand). Paired over the leotard, this makes a fun, fluffy skirt that any girl will love to dance around in!

Step 2: Purchase fairy wings in a variety of styles and colors or inexpensively make a pair yourself. To make wings for your Tinkerbell costumes, simply use wire coat hangers shaped into wings. Slip sections of white panty hose over the wing frames and secure. At this point, you can spread glue and sprinkle glitter all over the front of the wings for a special effect. Add elastic so that you can wear over your shoulders comfortably.

Step 3: Make a fairy wand by cutting out a star shape from cardboard; paint and decorate as you see fit. Gut onto a dowel and tie on the reserved chiffon and tulle strips (may need to cut down to make smaller). Wear a pair of comfortable ballet slippers with your Tinkerbell costume.

There’s just no telling how far your girl will go in this DIY Moana Halloween costume.

Maybe dressing up in a DIY unicorn costume isn’t your daughter’s cup of tea. They might prefer to dress up as a character from a favorite movie. Moana is a Disney favorite. It’s a feeling of attraction fans of the film know well, particularly around October 31: Many have felt similarly drawn to recreate their own Moana costume DIY for Halloween. The outfit worn by our favorite Polynesian protagonist is nearly as fun as the adventures she embarks on in the movie.

But how to bring the Disney character’s look to life? Well, one way is to simply opt for a store-bought one. The classic story of “Beauty and the Beast,” particularly the animated Disney version, is a favourite source of costume ideas for children and adults. Aside from the lovely Belle and the lovable Beast, fans often dress as the villainous Gaston and other supporting characters such as Lumiere, Chip, Cogsworth, Mrs.

Potts and Le Fou. With such a varied cast of characters, from human to animal to anthropomorphic object, there is something for everyone.

Whether attending a costume party or simply dressing up for Halloween, a homemade “Beauty and the Beast” costume is sure to make a splash. To learn how to make your own costume, complete the following instructions.

Determine which character’s costume you would like to make. Consider that animal or object costumes may take a great deal more work than those of Belle, Gaston or other human characters.

  • The classic story of “Beauty and the Beast,” particularly the animated Disney version, is a favourite source of costume ideas for children and adults.

Find an appropriate pattern for the costume you have decided to make. For Belle’s ball gown, use Simplicity 9902 or Butterick 4320 for a child and McCall’s M3609 for an adult. For Belle’s blue peasant dress, Simplicity 4139 for children can be adjusted to that look, as can any adult sundress and apron pattern. For the Beast’s ball clothing, use Reconstructing History’s adult patterns for an 18th century tailcoat, breeches, vest and cravat. For a child Beast, mix Rocking Horse Farm’s boy-sized Regency patterns with the adult Reconstructing History coat patterns.

Choose the appropriate fabric colours for each part of the costume, using a reference picture of the character from the movie. Use the pattern guidelines to determine the appropriate type of fabric.

  • Find an appropriate pattern for the costume you have decided to make.
  • For Belle’s ball gown, use Simplicity 9902 or Butterick 4320 for a child and McCall’s M3609 for an adult.

Following the pattern instructions, make a full test costume out of cheap muslin. This will assess any fit problems in the pattern size that is closest to your measurements. Put the muslin on several times throughout the process to test the fit. Make any alterations directly on the muslin.

Take the test costume apart at the seams and use the pieces as pattern pieces for your real costume fabric, particularly if you have made many adjustments to the original pattern. Remake the costume in the real fabric as neatly as possible. Before finishing hems, linings and bindings, put the costume on one last time to double-check that there have been no fitting mistakes. Finish the details.

  • Following the pattern instructions, make a full test costume out of cheap muslin.

Acquire all accessories shown in your reference pictures. If you made Belle’s peasant costume, you will need a blue hair ribbon and shoes. If you made her ball gown, you will need evening gloves, a gold hair tie and dress shoes. Many accessories can be found at local costume shops, in thrift stores and online. You can also make some items, such as gloves and head wear.

Make or buy any props. Your Belle may wish to carry the magic mirror, which can be picked up in any costume store, or a basket of books, which can also be bought. The Beast’s wilted rose can be re-created using a cheap craft rose. Some props can be purchased directly from Disney product lines.

  • Acquire all accessories shown in your reference pictures.
  • You can also make some items, such as gloves and head wear.

Attend to the make-up and hair. Some characters, such as the Beast, will require more complex make-up and hair than others. The Beast’s look can be re-created with a long, shaggy brown wig; plastic horns; fake fangs; and furry gloves. You can also stick extra hair pieces at the trouser cuffs to look like leg fur. Beastlike make-up can be done using standard Halloween fright make-up kits, which often include werewolf options.

This is what I did – I found a lime green leotard at a dance studio, then bought some white toole and dyed some of it lime green and left some of it white. I fashioned it after the picture on the website below – Good Luck!

Homemade Tinkerbell Costume

First, get a green leotard, or a green tube top. If they’re glittery, great! If not, whatever. Then get a green miniskirt that is cut in a zig-zag pattern at the bottom hem. You can make this out of stretchy fabric and cut it with pinking shears, or you can use a green ballet tutu. It’s really important that everything is green. Next, pull your hair up in a floppy bun, leaving your bangs hanging out if you have them. If you don’t have bangs, just leave out a few strands in the front. For wings, sew gauzy, sheer fabric around a wire frame and attach elastic straps. You can create a wand out of Tinker Toys or K’nex. For shoes, glittery or shiny ballet flats will work. They can be silver, white, or green. You can also attach a big white pompom to each shoe, if you wanted to. As a finishing touch, fashion a tiara out of silver pipe cleaners, and you are ready to go! Happy Halloween!

How to Make a Fairy Wand (DIY) Tutorial

I have always wanted to Make a Fairy Wand (and you can now check out my how to make a tulle wand tutorial), but not the usual kind of puff ball fairy wand, something different, more creative. Today I decided to get my craft on and started to conjure up what kind of fairy tutu type wand I could make to match one of Charlotte’s new play ballerina dress up dresses.

My initial thought was to make more of a “crystal ball” fairy wand. I had visions of sparkles in water and some really unrealistic things for the time I had scheduled, so I spent some time walking around Micheal’s to find some inspiration. That place sure is fun in the holidays.

This is what I came up…the project took about 30 minutes.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume*SALE* 9 GLITTER Tulle Rolls each one 6 BUT WAIT!! GET YOUR TULLE!!

These size tulle rolls are easiest to make fairy wands, pom pom balls, pretty much any tulle craft. They wrap so easy! If you buy tulle off the bolts at the craft stores, they have to be cut every which way for a tulle ball and that makes the craft frustrating.

I found this awesome set that gives you a variety of colors for all holidays and occasions.

STUFF YOU NEED

What you will need to create this Fairy Wand (or one of your own style) is the following:

  • Dowels(i opted for a larger dowel and cut it in half w/ a hand saw…that didn’t go so well) $.99
  • Ribbon to wrap the dowel $2.99
  • Tulle(I had this at home)
  • Clear plastic Christmas ornament $1.29 (get 2 in case you hot glue mess it up like I did)
  • stuff to put inside the ornament..I used a stream of marabou fluff, other ideas are flowers, glitter, ribbons, bows or rhinestones. My marabou cost $1.99
  • hot glue (took just 1 stick)
  • I also bought some charms to add on from the bead aisle $5.99

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. After you have your dowel cut to the right length, the first thing you do is wrap your ribbons around your wand. What I did was opt for one large ribbon to do the initial wrap and then a smaller ribbon to go around and cover the remainder of the dowel you could see. Its fairly easy to keep wrapping this around and then starting the 2nd one above and it should fall into perfect place.
  2. I usually dab hot glue on the bottom, middle, and top, so if I move my fingers and it slips, I don’t unravel the entire thing.
  3. Leave some excess ribbon once you reach the top to hang down or, if you prefer, make up some korker curly ribbon and use those to hang down. At this point on my wand, I left both strands of ribbon hang and then cut additional pieces and hot glued on the top so I had several pieces flowing.
  4. Don’t be afraid to get girly here. I am not sure you can overkill on the fru-fru when you are talking about a fairy wand.
  5. Next I set up the “crystal ball”.
  6. Take your Christmas ornament and pull out the piece that hangs from the tree. Its easier to hot glue when its flat. Take the top off and stuff inside with your filler. You can also leave it empty and add flowers or rhinestones on the outside. The trick here is that once you hot glue something on it, it doesn’t peal off very nicely. I discovered that when I put on my fancy Bird of Paradise, decided I didn’t like it, and tried to take off.

What was left was a huge gaping mess, so I had to put it back.

Oh well, it was my first try, right?

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Hot glue the top onto the ball so the wand is secure.

After I had the wand and ball done, I gathered some tulle with a ribbon and again let the ribbon have some excess tails. I made two of them, hot glued them together in a cross, and trimmed up the tulle. I also took a piece of the ribbon and wound it through the heart charm, and attached that to the tulle and made a knot.

Then I added the tulle “cross” directly to the top of the wand.

I took some of the larger ribbon and covered the ornament part of the plastic ball and then turned upside down and hot glued the ball onto the tulle.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

I’m not going to lie here…while it was really stuck and not going anywhere, the ball attached to the tulle made it slightly wobbly. More so than I liked. In the future, it might be smarter to attach the ball directly to the top of the wand and then add tulle with a small piece of elastic or some other clever way I haven’t discovered yet.

At this point, you are pretty much done!

It’s all decor from this point out. I added a bird of paradise ornament I found in the Christmas aisle at Micheal’s, but I am regretting it. Unfortunately, hot glue made it where I couldn’t take it off, so make sure you are sure before you stick.

Although a bit gaudy, Charlotte was a fan of the sparkly, so it wasn’t a total loss.

How to Make a Tinkerbell CostumeConsider adding satin bows to the front like I did or maybe even bells to the bottom of your ribbons so it makes a “charm” sound when you walk. I have another wand I am trying out later on tonight or tomorrow, so I will post the results of how that one worked out.

Tinkerbell Costume Ideas

For little girls, Tinkerbell costumes are so much more than a fancy dress afair outfit. Just as Peter Pan – the boy that never grew up – is the hero of millions of young boys, Tinkerbell is the female counterpart. Mischievous, caring and magical, dressing up in a Tinkerbell costume encourages girls to let their imaginations run riot. She combines the naughtiness of children with the sense of loyalty and responsibility that all parents want to teach their youngsters, much more than Wendy, who is old before her time, and not the sort of fun character that girls want to aspire to be like.

So the Tinkerbell fancy dress costume is the perfect outfit for any children’s party or fancy dress event. If your little ones are going to a friend’s party, a well-designed fairy costume will make them the toast of the party. Fancy dress is the ideal way to encourage your children to have fun and use their imaginations. Nowadays children are more inclined to ask for a new games console or DVD than a toy or fancy dress costume. Even the Walt Disney corporation seems to be putting greater emphasis on computer games and electronic equipment for children rather than toys.

Of course, this might just seem like natural progression as technology improves, but without the mental stimulation of playing with toys and putting on fancy dress, children’s imaginations are not being developed. Parents need to encourage their children to play with toys and dress up. Sure, it may be easier to sit them down in front of the telly, but even if you have peace when they’re young, you’ll be bored by them when they grow up. Most people want to raise interesting, imaginative children.

It’s important to remember that a childhood rich in imagination, because this can help children when they grow up. Think about it; if people are encouraged to use their minds from an early age, they will grow up to be better at thinking quickly in difficult situations, and be able to think outside the box – something that many employers want.

Creative thinkers do especially well in the workplace, and although dressing your child in a Tinkerbell fancy dress costume may not seem to link immediately to your child’s future career prospects, but every little helps in making your child a more rounded individual in the future.

And it’s even worth remembering that the fairy costume is rather more interesting than the standard little girl fancy dress of garish pink princess outfits. So not only will you encourage your child to use their imagination, but you’ll also perhaps be able to sprinkle their lives with a bit of fairy dust, all with a Tinkerbell fairy fancy dress costume.

Whether you are dressing as Peter Pan for a play or for Halloween you need a costume worthy of a lost boy. Before you head off to Never Never Land unprepared, prepare yourself a homemade Peter Pan costume worthy of a fairy tale. You can get started with the following instructions.

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Things You’ll Need:

Oversized Green Scrubs Shirt
Green Tights
Small Green Dress Cap or Beret
Red Feather
Wide Width Brown Leather belt
Plastic Sword
Brown Ballet Flat or Slippers

Putting your Peter Pan Costume Together:

Step 1: Whether you see him in a book, movie or play Peter Pan is always in a green tunic and matching green tights. To make the green tunic cut the hem and sleeves on the green scrubs shirt in a zig zag pattern. Use the brown wide width belt to cinch the waist of the tunic.

Step 2: The rest of your Peter Pans outfit is quite simple to put together. The hat should sit on the top of the head only. Attach the red feather to the hat on the front slightly to the side. The slippers really look best when they are ballet style and brown. Slippers like this are sold at department stores everywhere.

Step 3: The final item for your Peter Pan ensemble is the sword he fights Captain Hook with. You can use a plastic sword from a costume shop or make your own. To make your own sword cut the sword shape from cardboard and then wrap the blade in tin foil. The handle can be colored in with brown or black marker.

A Tinkerbell adult costume is a great idea for any kind of party. Whether they’re for cosplay conventions, Halloween night, Christmas parties, Birthday bashes, etc, you’ll find that it can definitely fit into almost any themed party you can think of. If you’re still undecided about this, then keep reading so you’ll know why choosing Tinkerbell adult costumes would be the best bet for you.

Tinkerbell Costumes For Adults – They’re Very Affordable

If you choose to buy a Tinkerbell costume, you’ll find that they’re very inexpensive. Of course, there are some prices that can go as high as 79 dollars or so, but those are made of materials that are highly valued. But since it’s just a costume party and that you know you’re picking one that doesn’t itch at all when you wear it, you can just choose to go with the ones that cost around 30 dollars or less. That happens to be the average pricing of some Tinkerbell costumes. Also, they can go as low as 20 dollars but you have to upgrade these with your own design ideas.

Tinkerbell Adult Costume – Easy To Make

Speaking of design ideas, you can certainly make one on your own because it is very easy to do. As long as you know the basics of knitting a dress, you’ll find you can easily make one in almost no time at all. You could also go with the option of buying a green dress and cut and knit it up to make it look more like Tinkerbell’s basic short dress. If you look at some illustrations of Tinkerbell, you’ll see she only has a green skirt on and a simple green top. Although, some illustrations vary and her one-piece short dress is the basic look, you can modify it and tell people that you’re adding your own ideas to it to modernize the over-all look. The wings and wand are also easy to make since you could just buy some wires and cover them with white paper material of some sort. You could also use white cloth to make it look more elegant. Just make sure to cover up the wires.

Tinkerbell Adult Costume – They’re Flexible

One of the more important reasons why choosing Tinkerbell costumes for adults is a great idea is the simple fact that they’re very flexible. As long you know how to be creative and experimental, you literally won’t run out of ideas. For example, you could go to a Christmas party as Tinkerbell and just tell people that fairies are a good Holiday costume too. Or you could just ditch the wand and wings and just go as an elf (as long as you wear a green Santa hat). You could even go to Halloween parties with your fairy costume and say that you’re a vampire elf while wearing vampire fangs and red lipstick down your throat (don’t wear the wand and wings with this idea). Go as a fairy character in cosplay parties that are fantasy or movie themed, and you’ll also definitely fit right in.

There are many more advantages of wearing Tinkerbell adult costumes; but listing them all won’t fit into this article anymore. The ones mentioned here are the basic reasons of why you should choose Tinkerbell costumes for adults and these should be enough to convince you. Women should never settle for anything less than an adorable costume.

OMG! ADORABLE NOW I DONT HAVE TO WASTE MONEY BUY DOLL CLOTHES, IS THERE ANYWAY IF YOU CAN MAKE UP ONE FOR BARBIE DOLL LIKE DRESSES,SKIRTS,SHIRTS, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
KEEP UP WITH THE GOOD WORK GIRLS 😉

I like the dress you made.

Wow that donut was so easy and that what was funny

Hey would this work for Polly pockets.

The handbag was extremely difficult for me because I do not have two rainbow looms. I have a fun loom and a rainbow loom. It was hard because the fun loom’s pegs are farther away from each other than the pegs on the rainbow loom, and the big pieces don’t fit for either one. So I basically had to HOLD the two looms together. My handbag came out kind of funny; when I took it off the loom, the “rows” were sort of loose and far away from each other. I squished them back together, but they are still loose.
To those people who don’t have two rainbow looms, and only have one rainbow loom, I DONT recommend trying to make the handbag with two different types of looms. It will turn out a bit wrong, and it is a LOT harder.
Instead, try to make a smaller version of the handbag. Like, instead, use three pegs for the top, and four going down. That might work. I will try it!

i agree, but i manged to make one thanks to my little sister who bought a loom after seeing what could be made on it.

Hey, my little sis has a dolls house and i made her a whole family of action figures and was wondering if you could make some of the food action figure size, it would be cool .

I made a pink dress with white in the middle, a pink handbag with white straps and handle, pink bow, strawberry flavour muffin in a blue case, a strawberry doughnut with strawberry frosting (different shades though). Then made Barbie a red dressed friend with red stuff. turned out cool.

No offence but the cupcake video is so confusing, I made it and the last two six bands you put on did in an icing colour cuz you didnt put any on. turned out like a honey jar. The doughnut is so easy, i made a rasbery one with purple doughnut bit. It looks cool. could you do another video and explain better plz.
thnks.

I wonder if this would work for the Frozen Anna doll… I might have to try! 😀 Cute!

Depending on your preferences and/or time. So this is a fairy wing how to, but also a fairy wing craft with improvement suggestions! I hope that is ok! I think these make a great No Sew Halloween Costume too!

Tinkerbell Costume Idea:

We will be adding a green no sew tutu, some pom pom shoes and a wand to turn this into Tinkerbell Costume!

The Fairy Wing Craft:

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

Materials – 2 large cereal boxes, acetate (I used old subject dividers for a ring binder), hot glue gun, pins or stapler, PVA glue and glitter, acrylic paint in desired colours, hot glue gun (I have some LOVELY glitter from Zing Zing Tree and her Zing Zing Tree Ebay shop)

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

1) I used our Tinkerbell Clothes Peg Fairies as a rough “template”. I sketched out one half of the wings and cut them out. Then traced them”back to front” and cut the mirror set, for the other half. I was going to use a Stanley knife to cut out the pattern, but found it easier to use scissors.

2) I glued the four pieces together. I had one wing facing the wrong way, as there was a tear in the packaging and I couldn’t fit the wing on any other way.

4) Then I painted both sides in acrylic paints. Because of the glossiness of the cereal box, I had to add a layer of white paint below our silver.

3) Once dry, I traced and cut out some “plastic backing”, made of our subject dividers – these were SLIGHTLY smaller than the wings. I used the hot glue gun to attach them. Plastic is notoriously difficult to glue and it has a tendency to come off again. So I also secure it with some additional pins, in strategic place. The plastic really gives the wings a good stiffness.

The side with the plastic on, is our “back” i.e. the side that will touch Pip Squeaks back.

a) you could either ditch the acetate all together, but strength your fairy wings, by adding 2-3 layers of cereal box cardboard. But that means you will need between 4-6 cereal boxes and will have to do a lot of neat cutting. The benefit of this, is that you can stick your card together in such a way that all glossy sides are facing in. Making it MUCH EASIER to paint afterwards. Or you could even leave them in plain grey card. Taking out the “painting step” below.

b) or… you could cut a second set of cereal box wings and “trap” the acetate between the two layers of cardboard, if that makes sense.

(you can see the little pins securing the plastic on this photo)

4) Once dry and secured, using your good PVA glue, create a pattern for the glitter, sprinkle glitter on top of the front of the wings and then shake it off and let it dry (dry flat, if you prop it up, the glue will run and make a mess!). The front of the wings is the side with the cardboard and no plastic. This is important, as although you can add some glitter on the plastic side too (see next step), the glitter and glue will not stay in place on the plastic permanently, it is likely to peel of a little. See the improvements in step 3 – if you have card on both sides, it will be MUCH easier to decorate the wings!

5) Once tried, I turned it round and add some glitter to the tips on the “plastic side” of the wings. You will see these tips, peeping over the should of your child. Here it is handy if your plastic is slightly smaller than the card, as it leaves you a rim of card board, perfect for PVA glue and glitter…

6) Finally, once dry, you can add some elastics, by threading 2 loops around the middle! And done. You have some fairy wings!

How to Make a Tinkerbell Costume

The older I get, the more I appreciate the idea of Neverland. First of all, you never grow up, which in itself is pretty awesome, and second of all, there’s a rainbow in the sky that never fades! Plus you’d get to hang out with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, two of the most iconic Disney characters there are.

What are we waiting for? Here we gooooo! Off to Neverland!

Tinkerbell

For Tink’s little green ensemble, I added DIY elements to items I purchased. I cut points into the hemline and cut a sweetheart neckline into a green short-sleeve dress I bought. I also bought green glittery shoes to which I glued white pom poms. Tink’s wings were fashioned out of wire and iridescent cellophane. I added translucent glittery ribbon on the wings as backpack straps and sewed some more ribbon on the neckline to hold the dress up. For a more detailed look on how I made Tink’s costume, click here.

Peter Pan

Like Tink’s, Peter’s handsome outfit is really easy to put together! I bought an oversized green polo and cut points into the sleeves and hemline. Sean, our Channel Marketing Associate, brought his own brown moccasins and his excellent modelling skills. I made Peter’s classic hat by sewing together two felt triangles and gluing on a feather I cut from felt. I also tied a fake rubber knife around his hips with some brown webbing ribbon.

Ladies, be nice to your BFs and don’t force them to wear tights. While some guys may be game, I would say the vast majority would prefer to wear pants. I found some skinny green pants from Abercrombie & Fitch, and they worked perfectly to complete the outfit. You can get a full tutorial on how I made this Peter Pan costume here.

Second star to the right and straight on ‘til morning!

Yay! Tink to the rescue!

All you need is faith, trust and pixie dust.

Always the sassy one, that Tink.
