Sideloading open source apps or emulators to your iOS device allows you to use apps and emulators that are not available on the iTunes app store. This article will show you how to sideload apps to iPhone and iPad for free and without having to jailbreak your iOS device.
Introduction
For the purpose of this post, you can understand sideloading as the process of downloading apps to your iPhone or iPad from another source, other than the iTunes app store.
Since, your iOS device does not allow third party apps to be downloaded directly, you need to Sideload the apps via a computer to your iOS device.
Another term that you need to understand is “Emulator”, which for the purpose of this post can be defined as software that can trick an iOS device into imitating or emulating another device.
For example, GBA4iOS is a popular emulator which can trick your iPhone or iPad into behaving like a Game Boy console, allowing you to play Game Boy Advance Games on your iPhone or iPad.
Things Required to Sideload Apps to iPhone, iPad
Listed below are the essential items that you will need, in order to sideload apps or Emulators to your iPhone, iPad or iPod.
Xcode 7: Xcode is an integrated development environment (IDE) that provides you with the tools to develop software for iOS devices. You can download the latest version of Xcode from Mac app Store for free.
Mac computer: Xcode only works on Apple’s Mac computer and does not work on computers using other operating systems like Windows Computers or Chromebooks using Google’s Chrome OS.
In short, you will need an Apple computer to run Xcode.
Source Code: You will need the source code for the App or Emulator that you want to sideload to your iOS device. Generally, the source code for most apps and emulators is easily available online, you need to look for it.
Key Steps to Sideload Apps to iOS device
Listed below are the key steps that you will be using in order to Sideload apps to your iPhone or iPad for free without having to jailbreak your device.
1. Setup Xcode on your Mac
2. Get Your App’s Source Code into Xcode
3. Connect your device to Mac ready with Apps Source code
4. Create a Code Signing Signature
Now follow these detailed steps below to complete each of the Key steps as listed above.
1. Setup Xcode on your Mac
Follow these steps to setup Xcode on your Mac and add your Apple ID.
1. Download Xcode to your Mac, in case you haven’t already done so.
2. Navigate to the Applications folder on your Mac and launch Xcode from there by clicking on it.
3. Once Xcode is launched on your Mac click on Xcode from the top bar to open up a popup menu.
4. From the popup menu click on Preferences.
5. Now from the popup window click on the Accounts tab and then click on the + button to add your Apple ID to Xcode.

5. You will now be prompted to enter your login credentials which is your Apple ID and Password.
Please note that you may get an error message during this step in case the Apple ID that you are using for this step is linked to an expired membership of the Apple Developer program.
If you do get an error message then you can create a new Apple ID and log in to Xcode using your new ID.
2. Get Your App’s Source Code into Xcode
In order to build and sideload the app to your iPhone and iPad you will need to get the app’s source code into Xcode.
As an example, follow these steps in case you want to get the source code of popular GBA4iOS emulator into Xcode. As mentioned above, GBA4iOS is a very popular emulator that can trick your iOS device into becoming a Game Boy console.
1. Download the source code of GBA4iOS Emulator to your MAC.
2. Launch the terminal window on MAC and type in the set of commands required to get GBA4iOS source code into Xcode and hit enter.
The code as shown in the image above (for GBA4iOS) has been suggested by Bouke Van Der Bijl, developer and GitHub contributor.
In your case, you will be using the source code for the app or Emulator that you are trying to sideload and follow the setup instructions as required for the app or emulator that you are trying to sideload.
3. Launch Xcode on your MAC
4. In Xcode, Click File > select Open
5. Locate your project file and click on it to open the project in Xcode.
Important: You need to be very careful when using the sudo command. You may be required to enter your OS X system password and any mistake might mess up your system. Not recommended in case you are not used to doing this.
3. Connect iOS Device to Mac
Now you need to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your Mac computer via a USB cable and once your Mac computer recognizes your connected device follow the step below
1. In Xcode from the top bar click on Product and from the dropdown menu point on Destination . Select the connected device as your destination. (See image below)
4. Create a Code Signing Signature
You will need to generate a unique code signing signature for your app in order to build and install it.
1. Click on your projects name on the left side of the Window.
2. Beside Bundle Identifier enter a unique name.
3. Beside Team Name make sure your name is entered.
5. Build and Sideload App to iPhone or iPad
Now click on the play button which is located in the top left of the Xcode window.
As soon as you click the play button, your app will be built, installed and launched on an iPhone or iPad connected to the Mac via the USB port.
Your app should now be successfully sideloaded to an iOS device. In case you get an error message, it is most likely that you have used an incorrect source code.
Cydia Impactor not working? Sideloadly is on the case. This new Cydia Impactor alternative comes with a clean UI and lets you sideload apps in a jiffy. Download Sideloadly for Windows below.

What is Sideloadly?
Changes to Apple’s signing mechanism have left Cydia Impactor broken. Saurik leaving the jailbreak development scene has further exacerbated the problem. In comes Sideloadly.
Developed by iOSGods, Sideloadly is a sideload utility for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It is a minimalistic Cydia Impactor alternative that comes with a clean user interface and powerful new features.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of its features:
- Quick sideloading: Sideload apps with a free or a paid developer Apple account.
- Drag-and-drop support: Simply drag and drop IPA files to install them.
- Save Apple ID: Save your Apple ID credentials for quick installation.
- Change Bundle ID: Change the bundle ID of an IPA file to install multiple copies of an app.
- Change app name: Change the app name on your home screen.
- Jailbreak-only mode: Dedicated mode for jailbroken devices.
Currently, Sideloadly only supports the Windows operating system. However, the developers intend to add support for macOS systems in the future updates.
Important: We recommend using a “burner” or throwaway Apple ID with this utility. Please DO NOT use your main Apple ID with third-party utilities.
Download Sideloadly
- 0.15.1 (Windows)
Requirements
- iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- A computer running Windows operating system
- iTunes
- Internet connection
How to install IPA files on iPhone/iPad using Sideloadly
Step 1 First and foremost, install the non-Microsft Store version of iTunes on your computer. If you have the Microsoft Store version on your computer, uninstall it.
Step 2 Download Sideloadly using the download link above and install it.
Step 3 Connect your Apple device to your computer.
Step 4 Run the Sideloadly app and ensure that it recognizes your device.
Step 5 Add your Apple ID email in the “Apple account:” field. Remember, you must use the same Apple ID credentials on your iPhone or iPad as well. If your device uses a different Apple ID, then log out of the current Apple ID and log in with your new credentials.
Step 6 Drag the IPA file of the application you want to install onto Sideloadly’s window as shown below. We will use Odyssey jailbreak’s IPA file for demonstration purposes. Move your IPA file to your desktop for quick installation.
Step 7 (optional) Select Advanced options to access the following options:
- Try to support iOS 8+
- Remove limitation on supported devices
- Enable UIFileSharing
- Change app name
- Change app version
- Change app bundle ID (for installing multiple copies)
- Don’t use Anisette authentication
- Jailbreak-only mode
Step 8 Press Start. Enter your password when you are prompted for it. Again, we recommend using a throwaway Apple ID account with this tool.
Step 9 Press OK once you have entered your Apple ID password. Sideloadly will now send your email ID and password details to Apple’s servers.
Step 10 Once Apple’s servers validate your credentials, the installation process will begin. Open the log and wait for the installation to finish.
Step 11 Disconnect your Apple device from the computer once the installation is over.
That’s all there’s to it. If you run into issues during installation, don’t hesitate to reach out to us in the comments.
In the immediate aftermath of Apple’s WWDC 2015 keynote, we brought you the news that the Cupertino company now allows sideloading of iOS apps without the need for a paid Apple Developer Program account. Installing apps outside the jurisdiction of the App Store, without a jailbreak or a paid developer account, with the use of just Xcode may seem a little convoluted to a large percentage of the populous, but to others it should just be a walk in the park.
Follow the relatively simple and easy to understand steps below to get up and running with sideloading iOS apps using the latest beta of Xcode 7, all for free.
Step 1: Download and install the latest Xcode 7 beta release from here. The latest beta can be found in the downloads section of the dedicated Apple Developer Program portal.
Step 2: Launch Xcode 7, allow any installation processes to complete before selecting ‘Xcode’ in the Menu Bar then ‘Preferences.’ These installation processes may involve having to agree to the terms and conditions as well as entering the main administrator password of the Mac you’ve installed it on.
Step 3: Under the ‘Accounts’ tab of the ‘Preferences’ menu select the ‘+’ button and choose ‘Add Apple ID…’ to add a new account. Log in with your Apple ID.
Step 4: Download and open up the Objective-C or Swift source code of the app that you wish to sideload onto your iOS device. For a start, you can download source code of GBA4iOS Game Boy emulator for sideloading on your iOS device by running the following command in Terminal:
sudo gem install cocoapods; git clone cd gba4ios; pod install
Step 5: Now once you have your desired app project open in Xcode, plug in your iOS device via USB and select it as the build destination. To do this, click on ‘Product’ from the Menu Bar then ‘Destination’ and select your connected device.
Step 6: In order to install the app, Xcode requires a code signing signature. Click on the project name on the left-hand side of Xcode. Add a unique ‘Bundle Identifier’ under the ‘Identity’ header. This usually takes a reverse domain name format but can actually be anything you wish.
Step 7: A warning message of “No matching provisioning profile found” will appear in that same window. Make sure your name is selected in the ‘Team’ box and then click on the ‘Fix Issue’ button underneath it and allow Xcode to, well, fix the issue.
Step 8: Provided everything is actually alright with the source code – there’s no compiler warnings or critical errors within – Xcode 7 beta should sideload the app and run it on the destination device.

It is a bluff. iOS cannot side load unsigned apps without jailbreaking which is in fact a replacement of genuined OS with another one tampered using a firmware upgrade mechanism. Jailbraking is changing the original OS with a tampered OS through upgrade. The original OS cannot install apps out of Apple store, all apps accepted having been signed with a certificate.

AnonD-16809, 02 Jan 2013 Come on ! most of the apps are just $0.99 i feel for the developers too. but situations vary per country or region. like our country, the philippines, people don’t normally have credit cards or paypal accounts or postpaid lines that can pay for these apps. so even if i have cash, it will be a lot of hassle to setup a ccd or a paypal acct and load money into it. also $0.99 is about 40 pesos, and can feed a family for a day in some poor areas, so that’s the equivalent value of some apps. maybe if they adjust the prices of the apps according to the financial status of an area or country, piracy may be reduced.

I wish there is a "rental – free" version for app store. So we might test paid apps if they are worth buying. I believe people would buy if it is worth the money.
Sideloading apps from other sources could be dangerous and risky. Rather do things officially then pirated.
Its like eating on the road side vs going to a restaurant.. u might end up having stomach ache and paying more.

For most iOS users, Appstore is the only place to download and install apps. Sometimes, you may want to install an old version of an app or apps that are not available in Appstore. In that case, you can install IPA on iPhone or iPad. In this post, I will show you 5 methods to load .ipa on non-jailbroken iPhones or iPads. It is better to use a PC or Mac, but you can also install IPA on iPhone without a PC or Mac.
Install IPA with Apple Configurator on Mac
Since iTunes 12.7, the Apps section is gone. It seems impossible to load IPA apps from iTunes. Luckily, another app, Configurator 2, from Apple, can install the app through IPA files. You follow the steps below to use Configurator to load IPA files onto your iPhone.
Step 1. Install Apple Configurator 2 on your Mac from the App Store.
Step 2. Connect your device to your Mac via lightning cable.
Step 3. Open Apple Configurator 2, select your device.
Step 4. Click on Add button and select the App option.
Step 5. Select Choose from my Mac button and browse to select the .ipa file. In a short while, you can see that the app has been installed on your iOS device.
Install IPA to iPhone or iPad with Sideloadly
If your app is not signed correctly, it probably will not work after installing via Configurator. In that case, you can use Sideloadly to load .ipa files to your iPhone or iPad. It will automatically sign your app. Sideloadly is available for both Windows and macOS.
Step 1. Download & install Sideloadly on your Windows PC or Mac.
Step 2. Once Sideloadly is installed, connect your iOS Device to your machine.
Step 3. Drag the IPA file into Sideloadly.
Step 4. Enter your Apple ID email and press “Start”.
Step 5. Then you will be asked to enter your iTunes/Apple ID password. Go ahead and type your password.
Step 6: Wait for Sideloadly to finish installing the IPA. Once complete, you will now need to go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management to Trust the email address your enter in Sideloadly.
After that, you should be able to go to your Home Screen and open the newly installed app. Other methods mentioned here may fail, but this one has never failed me once.
Install IPA on iPhone with Online IPA Installer
If you don’t want to download anything, you can use this free online web service Install On Air. This is often used when you want to share your beta apps with others for testing.
You just need to upload your IPA file to the Installonair website and generate a sharable link or QR code. Anyone can click the link or scan the QR code to install the IPA on his or her iOS device.
Since it is an online service, you can also do it without a PC. You need to download the IPA file onto your iPhone and then save it to the Files app. Then you can upload it to Installonair from the Files app.
Install IPA on iPhone Directly without Computer
Another method to load the .ipa file onto iPhone would be using the Shortcuts app, an automation app provided by Apple. If your iPhone is running iOS 15, you can jump to the steps below.
If you haven’t used any shortcuts before, you need to open the Shortcuts app and create one. You can drag any action into there and run it once. Then go to Settings > Shortcuts and toggle on Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.
Step 1. Get this App Installer Reborn shortcut by opening this link in Safari. Any shortcuts outside of the Shortcuts Gallery are considered untrusted, so feel free to add them.
Step 2. Copy the link to your IPA app file that you want to install. I save the file to iCloud and use the iCloud share link.
Step 3. Run the shortcut and paste the link when asked.
Step 4. Then you will be prompted to install the App. Just tap Install to install the IPA.
That’s it. Your app would be installed shortly and you can see the progress on the Home screen. Be aware that this method would not work for unsigned apps. If you like the Shortcuts app, you can also find more amazing shared shortcuts from here.
Install IPA with iTunes/Finder on Mac
After Apple removed the App section from iTunes, you can still use iTunes to install your iOS App (.ipa file). However, this only works for Developer provisioning but not for Adhoc provisioning.
If your app is developer provisioning, you can locate your device in a Finder/Locations window and drag/drop that .ipa from another window directly into Finder. When you see a green + icon, release. After that, you can find the app on your phone.
for Adhoc provisioning apps, you can use Xcode. Just open your device information panel in XCode. Select “Devices and Simulators”, then select my ‘Device’ and drop the .ipa file in the area.
Bonus: Install IPA with Cydia Impactor
Cydia Impactor now only works for Apple Developer Account. If you have an Apple Developer account, you can refer to the steps below to install iOS apps without iTunes.
Step 1: Free download Cydia Impactor from its official website.
Step 2: Open Cydia Impactor. Drag and drop the IPA file onto Cydia Impactor.
Step 3: Then type in your Apple Developer Account ID and password to continue.
In a short while, your IPA file will be installed on your iPhone or iPad. If needed, you can download multiple IPA files, and install them with Cydia Impactor all at once.
Conclusion
It is always recommended to use apps provided by Apple to install IPA on your iOS device. If your app is unsigned, you can only sideload it with Sideloadly.

After the Smash hit Super Mario Run had hit iOS late last year, fans of the game began to wonder if other Nintendo Classics could make it. Unfortunately, at about the same time the Japanese Giant confirmed that it had no plans to do so. Meaning that if you have an iPhone or iPad, you’re going to have to install Delta Emulator to be able to play them. In this article, we’re going to tell you how to do just that. We’re going to talk about a method called sideloading, and you don’t need to jailbreak iOS 10 to use it.

Install Delta Emulator on iOS 10
With the sorry Apple caused the demise of GBA4iOS, comes Delta Emulator to replace it. Initially last year, the response to the news of a new Emulator for iOS and Android was met with positivity. However, the beta release was only available to developers, now, in 2017, it’s available to all. So, if you’re interested in learning how to install Delta Emulator Beta 4. Continue to read for requirements and the instructions.
Sideloading Requirements
The below list includes a set of requirements that you need to meet before moving onto the tutorial below. Please read through them and make sure each is fulfilled before progressing.
The technology industry has long been on the receiving end of billions of dollars in capital, but what’s next for the industry? 1. Begin by getting yourself a copy of the API file, without it, you can not install Delta Emulator. A copy can be found here.
2. To be able to progress with this sideloading tutorial, you need a tool which makes it possible. One such tool is called Cydia Impactor, it can be found here. Please make sure you select the version for either Mac, Windows, or Linux.
3. This last requirement, requires that you update iTunes, please do that now, and then move onto the tutorial.
Note: The following process will require that you read and repeat a set of instructions. As such, we suggest that you read each individually one at a time, understand, and then act upon it. This approach is a proven one and will prevent you from making any mistakes.
How To Install Delta Emulator Onto iOS 10 Without A Jailbreak
1. Take your iPhone or iPad and Connect it to Your Computer via USB.
2. One of the above requirements was to download Cydia Impactor, find it, and Run its exe.file.
3. Once Cydia is running, it will be able to detect your device. Go to the tools drop-down list and Select It.
4. Returning to the requirements list, you have the Delta Emulator IPA file. Find it and then Drag it into the Cydia Tool Window.
5. Next, you will be prompted to enter your Apple ID, if you have a paid developer account enter the details now. Doing so will mean you don’t have to resign the app’s certificate every 7-days.
Now, if you don’t have a paid account, all is not lost. You can get a Free Apple ID here.
6. While on the Apple site look for APP-SPECIFIC PASSWORDS, and then click Generate Password. Unlike the paid ID method, this one requires you to resign the apps certificate once every 7-days.
7. Now that you have entered your ID, Cydia will begin to install Delta Emulator using the sideloading method. You should now, be patient, leave your iOS 10 device and computer to do this.
8. Once the above task is complete, you will see a Delta Emulator iCon on the Home Screen of your device. Do Not Tap It.
Before you launch the app for the first time, you are required to Trust its Certificate. To do that, go to Settings >>> General >>> Profiles. Followed by Selecting the Apps Profile and then Trusting the certificate.
And that’s it; you have now been able to instal Delta Emulator onto on your iPhone or iPad as you would any other app. The fact that you have sideloaded it means, that even without a jailbreak, you no longer have to miss out on the possibility of playing classic Nintendo titles.
Hi everyone, I recently managed to get my hands on an iPhone 5 on iOS 10.3.3 and jailbreaking it was a mess. All websites with helix on were revoked, no sideloaders were working (because I’m on big sur) and even Altstore wasn’t working for some reason. I did some research and after many many hours, I managed to install helix on my device. I am making this tutorial because Altdeploy and other signing services did not work. This is how I did it.
1: Install Altstore. You need to download a specific version which can be found here. I’m pretty sure this version works for both MacOS big sur and previous versions. Windows can also be found here. Note, big sur doesn’t require the mail plugin for this version.
2: Skip this step if you are on windows or if you aren’t on big sur. Big Sur users need to disable SIP and AMFI. Without these disabled, Altstore will not work for big sur. To do it, reboot your mac and whilst it’s booting up, hold down Cmd + R. When it has booted into recovery mode, select your user, sign it. Then when you are signed In, select utilities at the top, then terminal, then type these two commands. Make sure to do them both correctly.
Press enter, then type this
Then press enter and reboot your mac again.
3: If you want to download iOS 10 helix jailbreak like I did, then you can follow these steps. If not, you can now sign applications without Altstore on your device. Just go to, Altstore in the status bar, then side load ipa, select your phone, select your ipa, type in your Apple ID and it should be sideloaded!
4: Okay so if you want to sign Helix onto your iOS 10 device when every other way is revoked or not working, follow this (assuming you followed the steps above). Download helix ipa from here, then download this and press download zip. Note, you have to be in full screen on your mac to see the download zip button. Once you have downloaded it, move it to your desktop and also move the ipa to your desktop.
sudo gem install cocoapods; git klon // cd gba4ios; podinstallation
