This page explains how to complete the Anju and Kafei Quest, which is the longest sidequest in Majora’s Mask. Each section lists the day and time during which you have to complete a task that is required for the Anju and Kafei Quest.

Day 1, 10AM through 12PM: Get the Kafei Mask

Go into the Mayor’s residence after 10AM on the first day and go into the office to the right of the receptionist desk. Talk to the pink-haired lady on the couch to get Kafei’s mask. (Note: if you already have the Kafei Mask, she won’t give it again since you already have it.)

Day 1, 2:10PM to 8PM: Show Anju the Kafei Mask at the Right Time

At 1PM, the Postman goes into the Stock Pot Inn in East Clock Town. Go there and watch him give Anju a letter. Then when the Postman is leaving, put on the Kafei Mask and talk to Anju. She will ask you to meet her in the inn at 11:30PM tonight.

Optional: Day 1, 2:10PM to 3:50PM: Get the Room Key

Optionally, you can talk to Anju after the Postman gives her the letter, but don’t wear the Kafei Mask. Anju will give you a room key. You can use it to enter the Stock Pot Inn at night. If you don’t talk to Anju before 3:50PM to get the room key, a Goron will come in and get the key instead.

Day 1, 12AM to 6AM: Meet Anju in the Inn at Night

Go into the Stock Pot Inn at midnight on the first day. If you got the room key as described above, you can just go in through the front door. If you didn’t get the key, become a Deku Scrub and use the flower near the Stock Pot Inn entrance to float up and onto the roof over the front of the Inn, then go into the door up there.

Go to the Inn’s kitchen and wait for Anju to arrive (around midnight). Talk to her and she gives you a Letter to Kafei.

Day 2, 6AM to 9AM: Mail the Letter to Kafei

Wait until after the Dawn of the Second Day, or play the Song of Double Time to get there right away. Put the Letter to Kafei in any mailbox. This must be done before the 9AM on the second day.

Day 2, 3:10PM to 3:50PM: Go into the Laundry Pool Hideout

Before 3PM on the second day, go to the Laundry Pool. The postman goes there at 3PM with the Letter to Kafei. After he rings the bell, go into the door that the masked kid just came out of. Wait in there until the masked kid comes back in.

Day 2, 4:10PM to 6PM: Talk to the Masked Kid

Talk to the masked kid when he comes back into the Laundry Pool hideout. As you might have guessed, the masked kid is Kafei. He’s actually an adult, but the Skull Kid turned him into a kid. Kafei says that the prancing man from North Clock Town stole his wedding mask. Kafei gives you the Pendant of Memories.

Day 2 or 3, 10AM to 7PM: Give Anju the Pendant

Give Anju the pendant to convince her to stay in town and wait for Kafei.

Day 3, 1PM to 6PM: Receive the Special Delivery

Go into the Laundry Pool Hideout where you first met Kafei. The Curiosity Shop Owner is there instead. Talk to him to get the Keaton Mask and the Special Delivery to Mama (or just the Special Delivery if you already have the Keaton Mask).

Day 3, 6PM: Get the Stolen Mask

Warp to Ikana Canyon and go to Sakon’s Hideout. Kafei will be hiding behind a rock near the entrance. Hide with Kafei. You can wear the Stone Mask to prevent Sakon from noticing you. If you don’t have the Stone Mask, make sure you are behind the big rock so Sakon won’t see you, because if he sees you, you won’t be able to get into the hideout. If you want to be sure that he doesn’t see you, raise your shield (hold R) while standing behind the rocks. Eventually Sakon prances into his hideout. When Kafei goes into the hideout, follow him.

Go into the door straight ahead. It locks behind you. Watch the cut scene.

Afterward, step on the switch that Kafei asked you to step on. You’ll switch to Kafei.

You and Kafei need to work together to reach the last room before the Sun Mask falls into the hole and ends up back in Sakon’s hands.

As Kafei, go through the door, then push one of the big blocks onto the switch in the middle.

As Link, go through the door to the left. Kill the Deku Baba in this room.

Then as Kafei, go through to the next room. Stepping on the yellow switches slows the conveyor belt. Don’t step on the red switches because they speed up the conveyor belt (temporarily). When you are ready, step on the blue switch in the bottom-right corner.

As Link, go through the door that opened. Kill the two Deku Babas in the next room.

As Kafei, go through to the next room. Push the leftmost block down, then step on the yellow switch and pull the block that is to your right, making it cover the yellow switch. Then go around and push the middle block down onto the blue switch.

As Link, go to the next room. Kill the Wolfos that appears.

As Kafei, push the rightmost block out of the way of the door, then go to the next room. Step on the blue switch in there. As Link, go to the next room and step on the other blue switch. If you made it in time, Kafei gets the Sun Mask back. After Kafei runs back to town, it is now midnight on the third day. Warp to Clock Town.

Optional: Day 3, 6PM or later: Give Mama the Special Delivery

At this point, you can get a Piece of Heart or a new bottle with Chateau Romani milk in it. To get both, you have to do the quest twice.

To get a new empty bottle, wear Romani’s Mask to enter the Latte Milk Bar, which is next to the Stock Pot Inn. Talk to Madame Aroma while wearing Kafei’s Mask. Give her the Special Delivery to get a new bottle that is filled with Chateau Romani milk.

To get the Postman’s Hat instead, go into the Post Office in West Clock Town and give the Special Delivery to the postman. Follow him to the Latte Milk Bar, which is next to the Stock Pot Inn. Wait for him to come back out and stand by the wall, then talk to him. He gives you the Postman’s Hat.

Day 3, 6PM or later: Watch Anju and Kafei’s Reunion

Go into Anju’s Room at the top of the stairs in the Stock Pot Inn. Then wait. When there is 1:30:00 left on the countdown, watch the cut scene and you will receive the Couple’s Mask. Use the Song of Time to save and go back to the Dawn of the First Day.

It has however, been proven to be possible by speedrunners to help the maximum number of people available, get the maximum number of masks available, and still beat the game in one cycle.

You’d have to do all the stuff you’re otherwise locked out of on a first try, but it can be done.

It’s definitely possible to get both the blast mask and All-Night mask in the first cycle after the prologue. I’ve done it a few times. All you have to do is unlock Epona, get the Hookshot and clear the oceanside Spider House before the end of the first day. I can do that and still clear Snowhead before 6AM, so I can get the razor and gilded sword upgrades.

As for the postman’s hat, that’s best left to the following cycle. You can’t mix the bomb lady and all-night mask tasks alongside the Anju/Kafei quest.

If you want to complete 100%, you certainly have to do Anju/Kafei twice, serving both the Postman and Madame Aroma. Both get registered on the Bombers’ notebook.

And you get a free bottle from Aroma filled with Chateau Romani. She’s always my last side quest before taking on the game’s final bosses, so I can enjoy infinite magic.

It’s definitely possible to get both the blast mask and All-Night mask

I think the main problem is that if you get either of them, you prevent yourself from being able to do Anju+Kafei which leads to an overall drop in items gained

But Anju/Kafei can be postponed. You don’t need to do it on the first regular cycle. It’s best to get the Giant’s Wallet and All-Night Mask first (and the Blast Mask by default). That way, you get ample time on the following cycles to listen to Grandma’s stories using the mask.

I try to clear 100% of the game within 4 cycles (essentially 12 game days, including the prologue Deku Scrub cycle amongst them).

My strategy involves doing as much as possible on the second cycle (first regular Link cycle after the prologue cycle).

That means unlocking Epona, getting the Giant’s Wallet, upgrading the sword to Gilded sword level, getting the All-Night Mask, clearing the first two temples, and getting all Zora Eggs to learn the Zora tune.

I leave the Anju/Kafei sidequest to cycles 3 and 4. The Romani/Cremia is also within cycle 3.

The real challenge is unlocking Epona, getting the Giant’s Wallet and clearing Snowhead before the end of day 1 (including getting the sword to razor sword level). Once I manage that mini-speed challenge, I relax and accomplish everything else.

All you have to do is to get the bow and fire arrows ASAP. That way, you do the Powder Keg sidequest and get to Romani Ranch before the sun sets on the first day. After that, it’s a matter of getting the Hookshot and clearing all 30 spiders before midnight. Then I save the bomb lady and rush back to Snowhead to beat the boss. I leave the stray fairies for the 2nd day, after I get the razor sword.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask é conhecido por possuir diversas side-quests ou buscas opcionais.

No entanto.

No entanto, ele viu algo curioso.

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask

It’s part of one of your mail delivery quests. Bring the letter from Anju (the innkeeper) to the back of the Curiosity Shop (where Kafei lives. with the little pond and the frogs) around 4pm on the second day and deliver it to the shopkeep. He’ll give you the mask.

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask

You’ll have to complete most of the Kafei and Anju side quest, the longest side-quest in the game.

Here’s a step by step guide:

1. On day One or Two between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M., get Kafei‘s Mask from Madame Aroma (enter the building north of East Clock Town, she’ll be in the room to your right.

2.While wearing Kafei‘s Mask, talk to Anju at the Stock Pot Inn between 2:18 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. She’ll ask to meet you at the Inn’s kitchen at 11:00 P.M.

3. Meet with her there (she’ll be a bit late). She’ll ask you to deliver a letter. Put it in the mailbox right away.

1.At 3:40 P.M., Kafei will receive the letter. You can now visit Kafei‘s hideout (A.K.A. the back of the Curiosity Shop, you’ll find it at the far end of the Laundry Pool)

2. Once you’re in, go up the stairs to Kafei‘s room (wait for him if he’s not there), and talk to him. He will give you a pendant.

3.Bring the Pendant to Anju

1. Between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., go to Kafei‘s Hideout. The Curiosity Shop owner will be there. Talk to him and Ta-da! You have the Keaton Mask!

NOTE: Do not stop Sakon from stealing the bombs from the old lady the first night, or else you’ll screw everything up and have to restart

When you begin to complete the Anju and Kafei quest, start in Clock Town, and go to Mayor Detour’s wife’s office in East Clock Town when it is 10:00 o’clock in the morning. She is in the room to the right of the counter, and you must be quick; because if Mr. Gorman gets there first, they’ll have an argument and she will forget all about the investigation! Go up to her and talk to her. She will explain that Kafei has gone missing and she will ask you to go look for him. She then gives you Kafei’s Mask. Now that you have the mask, you can start the quest. Now head over to the Stock Pot Inn, which is also in East Clock Town, but make sure it is after lunch-time around 1:30PM, you can talk to Anju before 2PM, and just say yes to her question about the reservation for a Goron. You will get a key to a room, so you don’t need to sneak into the inn during night hours, but you can only obtain the room key if you are wearing the Goron’s Mask. Soon after that, the mailman will be stopping in, delivering a letter to Anju. After, the Postman leaves around 2:10pm, talk to Anju again while wearing Kafei’s Mask. She then asks you to meet her at the kitchen at 11:30pm. Talk to her in the kitchen between 11:30 AM and 6 AM.

Once you finish talking to Anju, she gives you a letter. Put it in a mailbox as soon as possible, anytime during that night or early the next morning. The Mailman will deliver it to Kafei at the Laundry Pool at exactly 3pm on the second day.

NOTICE: Do not stop Sakon the bomb thief at midnight! This will not let you finish the Anju and Kafei quest! Although it is almost impossible to be able to reach Sakon with such a short notice, whether its possible or not, shouldn’t be attempted anyway !

The Second Day

Kafei is hiding behind the Curiosity Shop, to get there you need to sneak in through the back door located in the Laundry Pool. This is the door you previously couldn’t get into, there’s a little boy with blue hair that goes in and out, and that’s Kafei. If you hit the bell closeby with the hookshot or the arrows, he will come out; but he will go back in. At dawn of the second day, some people play the double song of time to make it night of the second day 6 o’clock’, which will give you just enough time to enter. Preferably do this if you’re standing in front of the secret back door really early in the day; and you’re set. Go through the door anytime between 4pm & 10pm and talk to him; it will be unlocked. Listen to Kafei and hear his story of misery and woe. He will then give you a pendant, it is important to deliver it to Anju as soon as possible, because otherwise she will flee to Romani Ranch by the third day.

The Final Day

Optional: This is optional but worth a try, if you visit the same secret door to the Curiosity Shop around 2:00PM on the third day, the owner will be there. He will give you a couple of things that otherwise you can’t get. and the Letter to Mother. That letter will help you get the last bottle but you must deliver it to Kafei’s mother in the last of the game.

Now all you have to do is meet Kafei at Sakon’s Hideout near Ikana Canyon and finish what needs to be done there. To get there, you need to go up a hill near where the river dock with the Octorocks is, there is a huge mountain arch you must go through. As you wait for Sakon, make sure you stay away from his sight (do as Kafei)! At 6pm, Sakon will open his hideout and you can enter but only if he doesn’t see you. PLAY THE INVERTED SONG OF TIME! It will give you more time to get through the puzzles. They are fairly easy. Just kill the monsters when you need to and get through the place while playing with both Kafei and Link. If you make it in time with both characters and step on the two switches, you will have completed the quest!

1.1 Agree to begin searching for Kafei

Enter the Mayor’s Residence at 10:00am on the First Day. Speak to Madame Aroma in the Drawing Room and agree to search for her missing son, Kafei. Madame Aroma will give you Kafei’s Mask to help you in your search.

Kafei’s MaskA mask that lets you inquire about the location of a certain missing person named Kafei.

1.2 Speak to Anju and schedule a meeting

Speak to Anju, the woman behind the counter at the Stock Pot Inn, while wearing Kafei’s Mask after 2:18pm on the First Day. Anju will then tell you that she has a clue that will aide in your search. However, she doesn’t want to talk about it right then; instead, she asks you to meet her in the kitchen of the Stock Pot Inn at 11:30pm.

1.3 Attend the secret meeting with Anju

Meet with Anju in the kitchen of the Stock Pot Inn at 11:30pm, as she requested. If you aren’t able to open the front door of the Stock Pot Inn, you can still get inside by using the door on the roof. You need to use the Deku Flower in East Clock Town to reach the roof.

Speak to Anju while wearing Kafei’s Mask. She will tell you that she received a letter from Kafei. Anju has prepared a letter to send to Kafei. She asks that you deposit the letter in a mailbox and then meet Kafei on the Second Day because she is too frightened to do it herself. Agree to her request to receive the Letter to Kafei.

Letter to KafeiA heartfelt letter written by Anju. Drop it in a mailbox before collection time!

1.4 Mail Anju’s letter to Kafei

Deposit the Letter to Kafei in any mailbox in Clock Town before 6:00am on the Second Day.

2.1 Meet Kafei in the Curiosity Shop backroom

If you follow the Postman on the Second Day, you can watch him deliver the Letter to Kafei. He delivers it to a young boy wearing a mask at the Laundry Pool just before 4:00pm. After the Postman delivers the letter, follow the boy inside the door at the Laundry Pool.

Once inside, follow the stairs and speak to the mysterious masked kid. He will mention that Anju wrote about you in her letter, and specifically mentions that you are looking for Kafei. He will then ask you to keep a secret. Agree to keep the secret, and the masked boy will reveal himself to be Kafei!

Kafei will then explain plight: he was turned into a child by “a strange imp wearing a mask”, but is hiding because the mask he made for the wedding ceremony was stolen by some “prancing man with a grinning face”. Kafei will then give you the Pendant of Memories and ask you to deliver it to Anju.

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's MaskPendant of MemoriesKafei entrusted you with this cherished momento. See to it that it’s safely delivered to Anju!

Before you leave, speak with Kafei one more time to learn about the building. He is living in the backroom of the Curiosity Shop so that he can spy into the store to see if the thief shows up.

2.2 Deliver the Pendant of Memories to Anju

Quickly travel back to the Stock Pot Inn and give the Pendant of Memories to Anju. If you don’t deliver the Pendant of Memories before 12:00pm on the Third Day, Anju will evacuate Clock Town and you will be unable to proceed. If you deliver the Pendant of Memories in time, Anju will stay in Clock Town and wait for Kafei to return.

3.1 Return to the Curiosity Shop backroom

The door to the Curiosity Shop backroom will unlock again at 1:00pm on the Third Day. Enter the backroom and speak to the Man from Curiosity Shop. He will explain that Kafei saw the thief in the Curiosity Shop on the night of the Second Day; a regular customer named Sakon who lives in Ikana Canyon.

The Man from Curiosity Shop will then give you the Keaton Mask and ask that you deliver the Special Delivery to Mama to Madame Aroma, Kafei’s mother.

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's MaskKeaton MaskThe mask of the ghost foxes. If you wear this, maybe you’ll even get to meet one! Maybe?

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's MaskSpecial Delivery to MamaKafei’s note to his mother. A delivery this special calls for top speed!

3.2 Deliver the Special Delivery to Mama

Option 1: Have the Postman deliver the letter

Option 2: Deliver the letter yourself

3.3 Infiltrate Sakon’s Hideout

Sakon’s Hideout is at the southern end of Ikana Canyon, but the doorway is impenetrable. The only way to get inside is to wait for Sakon to open the door when he returns home. Kafei is already at Ikana Canyon waiting for Sakon to arrive, but he needs your help to successfully infiltrate Sakon’s Hideout. Sakon will open the Hideout door at 7:00pm on the Third Day; you need to arrive before that time.

Arriving on time can be a little tricky if you have not activated the owl statue in Ikana Village. If you are able to warp to Ikana Village, use the Song of Soaring to quickly arrive at your destination. If not, you’ll have to ride Epona from Clock Town to Ikana Canyon; the Inverted Song of Time is very helpful.

When you reach Sakon’s Hideout, you will find Kafei hiding behind a rock nearby. You need to hide behind the rock with Kafei until Sakon arrives. If Sakon sees you, he will run away and you will be unable to infiltrate the Hideout.

When Sakon opens the Hideout, Kafei will run inside; follow him.

Inside Sakon’s Hideout, Kafei will immediately locate his mask, but he carelessly steps on a switch as he walks forward to grab it. The switch turns on a conveyor belt that slowly moves the mask toward a hole in the back of the Hideout. You have a limited amount of time to reach the other side of the Hideout and retrieve the mask before it falls out of reach.

For this segment, you will alternate between playing as Link and Kafei. As Link, you defeat enemies to open Kafei’s door; as Kafei, you step on switches that change the speed of the conveyor belt and open Link’s door.

Retrieve the Sun Mask

After Kafei retrieves his mask, use the Song of Soaring to warp to Clock Town. It will be after midnight on the Third Day; there is very little time left before the Moon falls.

A Legacy of Personality: The Characters of the Legend of Zelda

Anju and Kafei (The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask)

by Pedro Hernandez – May 19, 2011, 1:33 pm EDT

Pedro fondly remembers the romance that blossomed during the end of times.

How to Unite Anju and Kafei in Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a game that inspires many emotions in players. Throughout the adventure, it is expected that the player will feel everything from desperation and fear due to the presence of the moon in the skies of Termina, to sadness and a deep level of personal satisfaction when a quest is completed. This is due to a series of side quests in which you set out to help the people of Termina while it is under the threat of the evil moon.

But the one story that really pulled my heartstrings was the story of Anju and Kafei. Anju is a shy but corteous woman who is an employee of the town’s Inn. Kafei is the son of the town’s mayor. The two of them were set to get married during the town’s festival. The Skull Kid, however, had other plans for the town. When Link first sets foot on Termina, he sees that a little kid wearing a mask is making the rounds around town. If players followed him, they would learn that he was in fact, Kafei, cursed by the Skull Kid to live his life as a child. He asks Link’s assistance in reuniting with Anju and retrieving the Couple’s Mask.

This begins one long quest that will take the players all of the three days the game offers.

What makes both the characters and the plot so memorable is the ending. After enduring a very challenging trial and participating in various fetch quests, you meet up with Anju mere hours before the moon’s impact. Kafei returns to her, asking her hand in marriage. This is one of the romantic and bittersweet moments in the game as players realize that despite them dying during the destruction of the town, they were able to see each other one last time, all thanks to the patience and determination of the player.

Majora’s Mask is filled with many small moments like this, moments where you realize that everything we do in life does have an effect on people. Anju and Kafei best represent that kind of commitment towards the happiness of others, and because of that, they are my favorite side characters in all of the Zelda lore.
