There's no cliffhanger finale at the end of the episode. Sheriff Haskell (Hugh Dillon) is unquestionably dead, which really puts a thorn in the side of the Duttons. For four seasons, Sheriff Haskell has been an invaluable ally to the Duttons. He's assisted them when legal investigations were conducted into their place of business, and earlier in Season 4, he aided John in dispersing a group of protestors who had taken residence outside his property.

His death means there are fewer people out there who have the Duttons' backs, and his departure came as a total shock to the show's fans. On a Reddit discussion thread of the latest episode, u/SupermarketNearby872 wrote, "I can't believe the sheriff is dead!!!" Redditor u/corgimomof 4 echoed those sentiments: "That was the saddest part of this episode but he has moved on."

From that point on, people analyze the scene, finding it strange that a group of robbers would try to take money from a diner when the sheriff is parked right outside. Was Sheriff Haskell's death a tragic accident, or are sinister forces afoot that wanted the sheriff out of the picture? All good things come with time, and the one thing we do know is that someone will have to fill in that Sheriff position, and it's a long shot they'll be as friendly to the Duttons as Haskell.
