The Polish dark comedy series “The Green Glove Gang,” also known as “Gang Zielonej Rekawiczki,” is on Netflix. It was made by Joanna Hartwig-Skalska and Anna Novak-Zemplinska.

Zuza, Kinga, and Alicja are old women who steal for a living. After a failed robbery puts the gang’s identities at risk, they decide to hide in a nursing home. But the quiet life at the facility isn’t for them, so they bring in a group of second-young people to live with them. When a robbery happens at the nursing home, the three women realize that there is more at stake than they thought at first.

The show, which stars Malgorzata Potocka, Anna Romantowska, and Magdalena Kuta, does a good job of mixing scary and heartwarming parts. While the main characters are getting used to their new lives in the nursing home, the police are looking into their past. They seem to be getting closer and closer to catching the thieves. Many fans have wondered if the show is based on real-life events because it is so exciting and has a strong message. If not, what made it come into being? Well, we’re here to talk about the same thing and share what we know.

Is it true that The Green Glove Gang happened?

No, “The Green Glove” doesn’t come from a real story. Joanna Hartwig-Skalska and Anna Novák-Zemplinska wrote the show. The Netflix show seems to be the first big project for both writers, and the two of them seem to have done their best to make an interesting story. Tadeusz Sliwa was in charge of the first season of the show, which had eight episodes. Silwa hasn’t been a director for the first time with this dark comedy story. He has also worked on “The Chairman’s Ear” and many music videos.

The show’s plot explores how society expects people of a certain age to act and how those expectations lead many older people to hold back their desires and live a quiet life. Life was always meant to be boring and quiet for the people who lived in the nursing home. But when three women who don’t care about the outside world come to live there, they shake up the old residents’ routine. The show talks a lot about the idea of living life to the fullest no matter how old you are and how being young is more about a person’s attitude than their age. The same message will have an effect on people who are in the same situation or whose lives are heading in the same direction.

But the show isn’t all smiles and messages, and the things that started the whole mess are interesting in and of themselves. Three old ladies who often rob and work as a gang with a signature style? It is definitely a concept that will appeal to people of different ages. Some people might see themselves in these characters, while others might picture their relatives doing some of the things the characters do.

In fact, the idea that people over a certain age can be thieves is not something new. The British movie “King of Thieves,” which came out in 2018, is another heist movie with a similar plot. The movie, which was directed by James Marsh, is about three men who get back together after a long time and decide to pull off one more heist to remember their glory days. As expected, the operation isn’t very smooth, but it gives viewers a lot of fun to watch.

Overall, “The Gree Glove Gnag” is not a true story, but it has many themes that people can relate to. The idea of living your life to the fullest, even if it has some criminal undertones, is one that many fans might find touching. In fact, the series has a feel-good idea in a thrilling storyline to fully captivate viewers and break the stereotypes of characters that actors of a certain age often play.

Plot

When the church bells start to ring, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, the parish priest, knows it can only mean one thing. The “green glove,” a miraculous gauntlet with gems, is the holy relic of the church. It has been returned to St. Elizar. People from the town rush to the abbey to celebrate.

After World War II is over, an American paratrooper named Mike Blake (Glenn Ford) goes to France to try to find a jewel-encrusted glove that was stolen from a country church during the war. His search leads him to Chris, a handsome young tour guide in Paris (Geraldine Brooks). A man who had been following Mike for unknown reasons was found dead in his hotel room. A rough sketch of Mike is in the man’s pocket. Mike says to the police that he doesn’t know the man and that he is not guilty. Chris likes Mike, so she joins him even though he didn’t ask her to.

Count Paul Rona, played by George Macready, is an art dealer who works with the Nazis. He is looking for the glove so he can sell it. Near the end of the war, Mike and the Count got into a fight. A French Resistance Countess helped Mike get away, and Mike gave her his suitcase as a thank you. Even though the police and Rona’s goons are after them, Mike and Chris find the glove in Monte Carlo. It was in the carry-on bag. When the countess kisses the glove, she stops being crazy.

Mike runs back to the church with the jeweled gauntlet as Count Rona tries to catch him. It was dark and dangerous on the mountain chase. Chris gets the attention of the police officer. Mike shoots Rona in the bell tower, killing her. He then rings the bells and puts the glove back where it belongs on the altar. The French police say Mike is okay. Mike and Chris kiss and hug each other.

Reception

When the movie came out in 1952, film critic Bosley Crowther thought it would be a good one because the screenplay was written by Charles Bennett, who had written “high-order” movies like The 39 Steps. But he found that The Green Glove “is not in that echelon; it’s just a standard chase after a medieval gauntlet with jewels that was stolen from a French church in the countryside.” He kept going, “… but the story told is melodrama at a low level. Glenn Ford doesn’t do much as the paratrooper who had a fight with an art dealer who was working with the enemy during the war.”

Dennis Schwartz, a film critic, didn’t like the movie, but he liked Glenn Ford’s work. He put down, “Rudolph Maté (D.O.A., Union Station, Miracle in the Rain) is in charge of directing this standard thriller, which has a few twists but gets bogged down by too many over-the-top melodramatic moments and characters and a plot that don’t make sense. It’s based on Charles Bennett’s novel and has a weak script. There’s a good story here, but it wasn’t told well. The romance happened so quickly that I couldn’t believe it, and the suspense wasn’t even close to how a great director like Hitchcock would have built up the tension and made things more exciting. (If you don’t believe me, watch The 39 Steps, which was directed by Hitchcock and written by Bennett.) Maté, who used to be a cinematographer, can’t keep things real, and every plot point seems too planned. But Glenn Ford is in it, and he’s so good at these kinds of action roles that he makes up for the movie’s flaws.”

The new Netflix show The Green Glove Gang (Gang Zielonej Rekawiczki) is about three older women who are part of a notorious gang and break into homes for a living. The show has eight episodes, and each one is about thirty minutes long. Also, the show is made by Joanna Hartwig-Skalska and Anna Novak-Zemplinska, and most of it is in Polish.

The cast of the crime show includes Magdalena Kuta, Małgorzata Potocka, Anna Romantowska, Beata Bandurska, Mirosław Zbrojewicz, Karolina Rzepa, Andrzej Grabowski, Józef Duriasz, Wojciech Duryasz and Elżbieta Gaertner. Notably, the show is mostly in Polish, but you can also watch it with an English dub.

The show starts with a well-known gang almost getting caught robbing a bank, which gives away the identities of three of its members. The gang is mostly made up of Zuza, Kinga, and Alicja, three older women who are smarter and more resourceful than most people their age.

The members decide to hide in a nursing home to cool things down. In the meantime, the police start looking for these smart thieves (which acts as a parallel plot to the story). The show takes a surprising turn when the Green Glove members find out about the bad things going on in the nursing home and start to get close to the people who live there.

The Polish thriller show is funny and fast-paced, and it features not just one but two interesting side heists. Gang’s screenplay by Zielonyj Rekawiczki is perfect, and there are no loose ends. Each episode shows a different part of their plan, which all leads up to the last heist.

The law of averages tells us that if the main character keeps winning, they are likely to lose in the end. But the eight-part thriller keeps the balance on the side of our smart con artists and does a good job of keeping the element of surprise.

Maybe the best part of the show is when the three members of Green Glove figure out how to beat the police and the bad people who work at the nursing home. People can feel very happy when experts on old age make sure to rub it in the faces of their competitors.

Also, the structure of the show is set up so that each section gets the same amount of time. A thriller show might easily overlook the bonding department, but The Green Glove Gang ensures no such mistakes. The whole part where the old friends can understand and relate to the feelings of the nursing home resident is a nice thing to see.

Fans of thriller-heist stories have to watch this show. Also, the ending is just as good as the interesting buildup, and it will leave you wanting more. Overall, the funny and on-point members of the notorious gang will make for a great binge-watching experience.
