Authorities say that a 17-year-old Pennsylvania boy died when he got pulled into a wood chipper while he was working.
Isiah M. Bedocs, who lived in Coplay, died on Tuesday afternoon, August 9, from “multiple traumatic injuries.” On Excelsior Road in North Whitehall Township, he was “partially pulled into a commercial wood chipper,” according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
ABC6 said that troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police said the boy’s clothes got caught in the machinery. A public report from the Pennsylvania State Police says that Bedocs was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he died from his injuries. The teen’s death was an accident, according to the coroner’s office. The New York Post said that he was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m. Officials and the teen’s family are still waiting for the results of an autopsy to find out what killed the teen.

Bedocs was going to be a senior at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, where he had signed up for the auto technology program. The Schnecksville-based institute said in a statement on Thursday that it was “in mourning” over the death of the student. The school said in a statement, “Our hearts are with his family and friends as they deal with this unimaginable tragedy.” “Counselors will be available for students who may be having trouble because of the event,” it said, adding that those who need mental health services would get them.
A person who lives close to the scene of the tragedy said that it was “unsettling.” “It’s sad what happened to the young man,” said the woman, who didn’t want to say who she was. “It’s too bad that he didn’t make it.” The woman also told ABC6 that she had seen other people working on the site for several days. Local news said that the homeowner who hired the tree cutting service originally wanted 10 trees on his property to be cut down. It is still not clear if he is responsible for the death of the teen. As of Thursday, Bedocs’s Go Fund Me page had raised $3,310 out of a goal of $5,000 to pay for funeral costs.
The PSP and the coroner’s office are still looking into what happened on Tuesday. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Bethlehem Criminal Investigation Unit are helping.
