Imagine a world without sushi? Doesn’t that sound like a bland, terrible place? Usually, my answer would be yes! However, Sushi Striker: The Way of the Sushido is anything but dull; it is full of life, color, and excitement, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the full release! If you’re interested in Sushi Striker, or you’re just looking for some quick, fun gameplay for the Nintendo Switch, I would highly suggest checking out the demo before its official release.
As stated before, Sushi Striker takes place in a world where sushi is unavailable to the common people. The evil Empire has taken the world’s sushi supplies for their own enjoyment, and war has ensued ever since. In order to help the starving people in their village (and the rest of the world), our main character, Musashi, must become a Sushi Striker to spread the sushi love to everyone. In order to prove your sushi striking abilities you must team up with Sushi Sprites, mystical beings with useful skills, to defeat all those who stand in your way!
The basic concept of Sushi Striker: The Way of the Sushido is a simple one. As plates of sushi come down the conveyor belt, you must link plates of the same color together. The more plates you link, the taller, and more dangerous, your stack of plates become. While managing the sushi conveyors, you must also remember to throw stacks of plates at your enemies, all while keeping an eye on the ultimate abilities of your Sushi Sprites. Needless to say, there is a lot going on, but it never feels like too much. Instead, the gameplay is fun and exciting and keeps you on your toes in the middle of a sushi showdown. To be honest, it is more than a little addicting; I was totally bummed to see the demo come to an end.
A world without sushi seems like a somewhat strange concept for a game, but Sushi Striker has the perfect tone to make this a pretty dire issue. From the animation to the opening theme to the can-do attitude of our main characters, it feels like your favorite shonen anime. Really, you can’t help but smile as you move through the demo, and I’m desperate to see if our main characters succeed in their ultimate goal.
All in all, Sushi Striker seems like a game that is easy to pick up and play, which makes it perfect for the Nintendo Switch. The demo is live now and available on Nintendo’s eShop for download. And don’t let “demo” fool you, it is a pretty long experience for being a free look at what’s is ultimately to come. So, settle in, order your favorite sushi roll, and settle in with this quick and addictive experience!
Sushi Striker: The Way of the Sushido is set to release on June 8, 2018, for the Nintendo Switch and the 3DS. Pre-orders are now live, and the game will be available physically and digitally for around $40!
