The scene comes near the very end of "Man of Steel," when Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) and his adoptive mother, Martha (Diane Lane), are standing at his father's (Kevin Costner) grave, remembering their time together. When she asks what he's going to do now — when the world doesn't need saving — he smiles and says he's going to find a job, transitioning the scene into that sets up for his future as a nebbish journalist at the Daily Planet.
Cavill nitpicked the scene, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "I would've smiled differently. Every time I see it I'm like, 'That's an irritating smile.' I just don't like it. Why did I smile like that? That's not how I smile. That I would have done it differently." The moment only lasts about two seconds, so it's unlikely anyone but the Superman actor would notice anything odd about his expression unless they're looking for it. We'll just have to wait for the Cavill Cut to see his perfect rendition of the "journalism is my dream job" smile.
Unfortunately, we don't know when we'll see him play Superman again, but he's certainly interested in continuing the role. Here's hoping he gets that chance, because he's much more than an irritating smile.
