As reported by Deadline, actor Gaius Charles has been cast in a lead role for "Isle of the Dead." He'll be playing Izaak, a family man with a wife and daughters. Deadline describes Izaak as "confident, ruthless, and unyielding," but also as someone who "enjoys his work" and "intersperses humor with the terror he incites." The description didn't specify whether Izaak will be an ally to Maggie and Negan, an opponent, or something in between.

Gaius Charles is best known for his role as Smash Williams on the hit NBC high school football drama "Friday Night Lights." Smash is the ultra-confident running back, who sustains a devastating knee injury that costs him a college scholarship. More recently, Charles has appeared on the TV series "The Wonder Years," "Queens," "Roswell, New Mexico," "God Friended Me," and the "Taken" show.

The six-episode "Isle of the Dead" will premiere in 2023 on AMC and AMC+.
