Toy Story 4 star Combat Carl has had cinemas across the globe belly-laughing at his desperate attempts for a high five. Fortunately, the post-credits cleared all of that up.
Few films have the ability to switch from full-throttle laughter to tear-jerking emotion in an instance.
However, in the blink of an eye, Toy Story 4 progressed from a hilarious introductory scene with Combat Carl to the heart-breaking moment Gabby Gabby doll was tossed in front of a lost child.
Carl’s clinging wait for a high five may have been the comic highlight of the film yet the post-credits scene eventually gave our new favourite action hero the credit he deserves.
Here’s everything you need to know about Carl from the voice actor to his best movie in quotes.
Who is Combat Carl?
Combat Carl comes from the Toy Story Halloween animation, Toy Story of Terror.
Here, the character developed an instantly recognisable look with a moustache and cameo pants.
However, it was in the first Toy Story (1997) where Carl made his initial an appearance, albeit very briefly.
As Woody watched on in disgust as evil child neighbour Sid blew up a small action figure, the toy sheriff added: “Oh no, it’s a Combat Carl.”
It’s thought that the Combat Carls are based on the G.I Joe action figures and have developed their physical appearances over the years to match that of modern-day toys, much like Little Bo Peep’s character development in Toy Story 4.
Who is the voice of Combat Carl?
CC is played by yet another Carl, Carl Weathers.
The American actor is a famous face in Hollywood and played Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise.
Now 71 years old, the actor also appeared in Predator and Happy Gilmore with 77 actor credits to his name on IMDB.
Combat Carl in Toy Story 4!
Fans have been going wild over Carl’s performance in Toy Story 4.
While assisting Bo and her sheep, three Combat Carls report back to confirm that they had found a kids’ birthday party for the ‘lost toys’ gang to attend.
The main Carl even stepped forward and shouted “oh yeah, Combat Carl is getting played with”, much to the sniggers of immature adults in the cinema.
Finally, two of the Carl’s kicked their heels and sprung into the air to land a high five, leaving one lonely-looking Combat Carl at the back stood around with his hand in the air awaiting a seal of approval.
Does Combat Carl get his high five?
Yes!
Fortunately, Carl got his high five during the post-credits scene.
The main post-credit scene introduced Knifey the toy, who is brought back from school to meet Forkey while perhaps hinting at a Toy Story 5 storyline.
However, after the credits slowly rolled out, there was also tributes to both Don Rickles, who voiced Mr. Potato Head until his death in 2017, and Adam Burke, a Pixar animator who not long passed away.
But, before the film was up, Canadian hero Duke Caboom stepped forward to land Carl with his much-needed high five as they performed on stage with the famous Pixar lamp.
