Vikram K. Doraiswami joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992. Before that, he worked for 1 year as a journalist. After his in-service training from 1992-1993 in New Delhi, Mr. Vikram was posted to the High Commission of India in May 1994 in Hong Kong as 3rd Secretary.
After that, He was posted to the Embassy of India in September 1996 in Beijing, where he served for around 4 years.
In 2000, Mr. Vikram was appointed Deputy Chief of Protocol (Ceremonials), Upon returning to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. And After 2 years, Mr. Vikram was promoted to the Prime Minister’s Office. Later, he served as Private Secretary to the PMO (Prime Minister of India).
In 2006, Mr. Vikram was posted to the Permanent Mission of India in the United Nations as Political Counselor and in October 2009 he served as India’s Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The overall ties between India and Bangladesh witnessed a major growth during Mr. Vikram’s occupancy in Dhaka which started in October 2020.
