The iconic actor and longest-serving member of the Wack Pack, a nickname given to Howard Stern personalities, recently passed away, the show confirmed this week.
Fred became known for a series of appearances and stunts on the show after making his first call to the studio in 1988.
As many took to social media to pay their tributes to the iconic star, we take a look at what we know about his passing.
What happened to Fred the Elephant Boy?
Fred ‘The Elephant Boy’ Schreiber passed away following complications caused by blood clots, an obituary posted on Howard Stern’s website explains. Fred was 64 years old.
As per Healthline, clots can form in any blood vessel and move to other parts of the body such as the lungs, heart or brain. “These migrations can lead to serious complications as the clot disrupts the flow of blood to important organs,” the outlet explains.
In a tribute on Facebook, science fiction author JG Faherty said Fred was admitted to hospital a couple of days after Thanksgiving 2022.
Faherty recalled Fred was a fan of horror fiction and often told him how much he loved his books. The author surprised the actor by featuring him as a cop investigating a murder scene in his latest book and said Fred was “so happy” about his involvement in the project.
The author sent a contributor copy to Fred before Thanksgiving but added he didn’t know whether Fred got to read the book following his admission to hospital.
