Biography of John Larroquette
John Edgar Larroquette Jr., served in the United States Navy and was born on November 25, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Berthalla Oramous Helmstetter, his mother, worked as a clerk in a department store. His grandfather was a Frenchman who immigrated to America in 1895.
During his childhood, John played the saxophone and clarinet, and in high school he and his friends formed a band called NUDLES. He attended Holy Cross School, Francis T. Nicholls High School, and finally Fredrick Douglass High School, where he discovered his acting talent during his senior year. After finishing school, he moved to Hollywood in 1973 to pursue a career as an actor.

John’s acting career began in 1973 when he moved to Hollywood. His first role was as the opening narrator in the play The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. On NBC, he had his first role on the show Baa Baa Black Sheep. He appeared in the 1975 film Sanford and Son.
From 1984 to 1992, he played Dan Fielding on the television series Night Court. With his appearance on the show, he broke the record of 4 consecutive Emmy Awards. John appeared in several episodes of The Practice in 1998.
From 2004 to 2006, John narrated the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The following year, he joined the cast of Boston Legal and appeared as a guest on the television series House. In Phineas and Ferb, John voices himself.
He became a regular on the TV show The Librarians, which made him a favorite with audiences. In 2019, he had a recurring role in the TV series Blood & Treasure, where he played the main character’s father.
