A California appeals court said on Tuesday 20 May 2023, that Leslie Van Houten should be let out of jail on parole.
The demanded court’s ruling backed a previous decision by Governor Gavin Newsom, who denied parole for Leslie in 2020.
She has been suggested for parole 5 times since 2016. All of those suggestions were rejected by either Gavin Newsom or former California Governor Jerry Brown.
Gavin Newsom could be requested that California Attorney General Rob Bonta petition the California Supreme Court to end her release.
Bonta’s office suggested requests for comment to Gavin Newsom’s office, which didn’t answer questions about possible next steps.
Leslie is now in her 70s, and she is serving a life sentence for helping Manson Family and other followers to murder Leno LaBianca, who was identified as a grocer in Los Angeles, and his wife Rosemary, who was 19 at the time.
Gavin has said that Leslie still poses a danger to society.
In rejecting her parole, Gavin also mentioned that she offered an inadequate and inconsistent explanation for her participation with Manson at the time of the killings.
