Craig Markus Obituary – Death: New York, Proof Advertising CCO, Craig Markus Passes Away

With deep sadness, we mourn the death of Craig Markus, a resident of New York City and the esteemed Chief Creative Officer at Proof Advertising. The news of his departure was shared through a somber social media post on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023.

Who is Craig Markus?

Craig Markus was a well-known personality in the advertising and creative industries for his major contributions to several advertising companies throughout the course of his career. He started his career as a studio artist in 1986, working on projects like hand-drawn compositions with markers and typography.

He has collaborated with a number of prestigious firms throughout the years, including Ogilvy, Deutsch, DMB&B, Cramer-Krasselt, and McCann-Erickson.

Craig had a significant influence during his tenure at McCann-Erickson. He worked with a variety of significant clients, won numerous awards as Creative Director of the Year, and was instrumental in creating campaigns for young adult audiences. His supervision of the US Army account, where he played a key role in developing the powerful “Army Strong” campaign, was where his influence was most noticeable.

Craig’s career path was exceptional, encompassing several organizations and having a good influence at each location. He also found time to mentor emerging artists at the Fashion Institute of Technology in order to give back to the industry.

He showed his dedication to developing talent in his last decisions made prior to being admitted to the hospital by elevating Claire Jordan to the position of Executive Creative Director.

Aside from attending the Berlin School of Creative Leadership, Craig’s educational background also included a BA in Communications from UCLA, a BA in Advertising Design from the ArtCenter College of Design, and a BA in Communications from UCLA.

What Happened to Craig Markus?

After a sad fight with Guillain-Barré syndrome and its repercussions, Craig Markus passed suddenly. He had been receiving therapy and care for the disease in the hospital for a number of weeks. He had recently been moved to Mount Sinai’s acute physical therapy clinic and hoped to quickly return to his previous position.

Sadly, following his first day of therapy, he experienced new problems and eventually passed away. He passed away, according to Proof Advertising, where he served as chief creative officer.
