Jennifer Lawrence is perhaps one of the most versatile stars of her generation, having tackled projects as wide-spanning and diverse as The Hunger Games, Winter’s Bone, and Darren Aronofsky’s Mother.
From blockbusters to dramas to arthouse, it’s amazing to see the 32-year-old American actress back on the big screen in the cinema release No Hard Feelings. It’s a sex comedy directed by Gene Stupnitsky, although it certainly feels like it could’ve been made by the Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Hall Pass).
JLaw plays Maddie, an Uber driver who finds herself without a car. Determined to raise the cash to save the home she inherited from her mother, she answers an ad that tasks her with seducing Percy, the awkward 19-year-old son of a wealthy couple.
What follows is an increasingly absurd and hilarious chain of events, but one scene has received the most attention. Did Jennifer Lawrence use a body double in the No Hard Feelings beach scene?

Jennifer didn’t use a body double for the nude beach scene in No Hard Feelings and performed the sequence herself.
The scene depicts Maddie and Percy skinny-dipping at the beach. They’re both in the ocean when they spot a group of teenagers attempting to steal their clothes while hurling insults at them.
Percy says they should call for an adult and Maddie hilariously reminds him that he is one. As the group is making off with their belongings, we see Maddie in the background emerge from the water fully nude and proceed to fight them. After getting their things back, she returns to the water with Percy, asking “Where were we?”
During promotion for the film, she addressed that she didn’t use a body double for the scene, although the cast and crew were persistent in making sure she was comfortably shooting the sequence herself:
“Everyone in my life and my team is doing the right thing and going, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure? Are you sure?’” I didn’t even have a second thought. It was hilarious to me.”
Body doubles are common in the realm of movies, although some performers agree and opt to appear nude in the scenes themselves.
‘I fell off my chair’
The scene has proven to be one of the runaway moments of the film and plenty of audiences have weighed in with their surprised reactions on Twitter.
“I fell off my chair when I saw Jlaw completely naked,” one viewer recently tweeted, to which somebody replied, “I don’t think anyone saw that coming, like yeah we knew there were nude scenes but that.”
Another similarly tweeted: “I didn’t know that I needed to see Jennifer Lawrence suplex someone naked on a beach… But it turns out I absolutely did.”
“Eastern Promises had a great run for ‘best naked fight of all time,’ but the crown might belong to No Hard Feelings now,” one fan wrote. “An unexpected blessing!”
Is No Hard Feelings on HBO Max?
No Hard Feelings was released exclusively in theaters on Friday, June 23rd, 2023, and is not streaming on HBO Max, nor is it available on any other platforms.
Sony Pictures Releasing handled distribution, so the big screen is the only place to see the movie (and scene) that everybody is talking about. Comedies are back, baby!
