How to change fonts on samsung phones

Android offers plenty of options to customize the appearance of your device, including your font style. If you want to change your Android font, you can use built-in settings to do it or use a custom launcher.

Due to the fragmented nature of Android, changing your fonts on different Android manufacturers and versions will vary. The steps below are confirmed to work on a Samsung device running Android 9 Pie.

Changing Built-In Font Settings

Some Android devices and versions have built-in settings to allow you to change your font style. If your phone or tablet doesn’t have these options, you won’t be able to change the font style without rooting your device, which isn’t something we recommend.

If you do have the option to alter your font settings, head to the “Settings” menu on your Android device by swiping down the notifications shade and tapping the gear icon in the top right. You can also access your “Settings” menu from the app drawer.

In the “Settings” menu, scroll down and tap the “Display” option.

The “Display” menu may vary depending on your Android device. Tap “Font Size and Style” if you’re a Samsung device owner. This may appear as “Font” or another variation on other phones and tablets.

In the “Font Size and Style” menu, tap the “Font Style” button.

You’ll have a list of pre-installed font styles available for you to choose from. “Default” is, as the name suggests, the default font used on your device.

Tap on one of the other available fonts to switch to it. The change should happen automatically.

Samsung Galaxy device owners are able to install other fonts using the Samsung Galaxy Store. Below the list of pre-installed fonts, tap “Download Fonts” to load the Samsung Galaxy Store. From there, download one of the available font options by tapping the download button next to it.

Once your new font style is installed, return to the “Font Style” menu and tap on it to switch.

Using a Custom Launcher

If you don’t have the option to change your font style on your Android device, you can use a custom launcher instead. Two popular launchers you could choose to use are Nova Launcher and Action Launcher.

Both of these launchers will display custom fonts for you, but these will only be displayed within the launcher itself. That means the font you see elsewhere in your Android settings and in other apps will remain as the Android default.

Changing Fonts in Nova Launcher

With over 50 million downloads, Nova Launcher is one of the most-used custom Android launchers. If you have it installed, you can customize the font style being used for app icons on the home screen, in the app drawer, and for any app folders.

To start, swipe up from your home screen to access the Nova Launcher app drawer. Then tap the “Nova Settings” app.

If you want to change the font being used with icons on your home screen, tap Home Screen > Icon Layout.

App drawer fonts can be changed by tapping App Drawer > Icon Layout. Follow the same process for app folders by tapping Folders > Icon Layout.

The “Icon Layout” menu will be slightly different for each of these three options, but the font style section remains the same.

Under the “Label” option, you’ll see a “Font” setting. Tap on this to select between one of four options: Normal, Medium, Condensed, and Light.

Once you’ve made your selection, tap the back button and check the icons in your app drawer or home screen to confirm the font style has changed.

Changing Fonts in Action Launcher

If you’re using Action Launcher and you want to customize the font style used in your app drawer and home screen, swipe up to enter your launcher app drawer and then tap the “Action Settings” app.

In the Action Launcher Settings menu, tap the “Appearance” option.

Scroll down within the “Appearance” menu and then tap “Font.”

Choose one of the custom Action Launcher fonts available within the “Font” menu. Tap on one of the options to confirm your choice and then select the back button to return to your app drawer.

The font being used within the app drawer and on your home screen will change to match your chosen font choice.

Other Third-Party Font Style Apps

A number of font style apps are available on the Google Play Store. These apps aren’t generally recommended as most won’t be able to make any changes to the default font style your device uses.

Some, like Stylish Text, will let you write “stylish text” in messaging apps like WhatsApp that give the impression you’re using a different font. These apps use custom symbols to display stylized text rather than actually making any changes to your font style.

Other apps, like Stylish Fonts, use the same process that allows users to install fonts using the Samsung Galaxy Store. If you have a Samsung device, it’s recommended you use the built-in “Download Fonts” method listed above instead.

Hate the stock font on your Samsung phone? You’re in luck, because you can change it up whenever you like. They even have font packs available for download.

How to Change the Font

If you’re just looking to change the font up a bit, it’s incredibly simple. Pull down the notification shade and tap that cog icon.

Tap the “Display” option, and then tap the “Font and Screen Zoom” setting.

In this menu, you can change screen zoom and font size options, but if you scroll to the very bottom you’ll find a “Font Style” section where you can find all the available font choices on your phone. And boy are there some good ones.

But you’re not just stuck with these beauties. Oh no—there’s a whole section of available fonts to download.

How to Add New Fonts to Samsung Phones

At the bottom of the Font Style menu, tap that “Download Fonts” option and let’s see what we can find.

It’s free in the Play Store, doesn’t require root access, and the developer says it will work on Samsung’s Galaxy Note, S, J, C, A series of devices. You can free to download and use Google fonts and inbuilt fonts manager to manage your custom fonts.

1. Download and install GxFonts app in Samsung phone.
2. Open the app and on welcome menu you can find list of fonts compatible with Samsung firmware. Choose one preferred font by clicking Download.
   
3. Once the font installed, activae Unknown Source in menu Settings – Lockscreen and Security. Next, open Setting – Display – Screen Zoom and font.

1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on Display>Screen zoom and font
3. Scroll down until your find Font Style
4. Pick the font you want and then confirm you want to set it as system font.
5. From there you can tap the “+” Download fonts button. You’ll need to log in with a Samsung account in order to do so.

Other manufacturers like LG, HTC or OnePlus also let you change fonts on your phone. So if for example, you have an OnePlus device, you can go to Settings>Display>Font to change the default Roboto to OnePlus Slate. You can also tweak the size of the font.

Install a third party launcher

What if you don’t have any font settings on your Android phone? Not to worry, you can always install a launcher and change fronts from there. For example, you can give the Apex Launcher a try.

Here’s how to change the font using the Apex Launcher

1. Tap on Apex Settings (Gear icon at the center)
2. Find and tap on Advanced Settings
3. Located the Icon Settings menu
4. Tap on Icon Font and then choose the font you want to try
5. The app will automatically update the icon labels on your phone

Note: the app does not change the font within the apps installed on your phone. It will only affect the home screen and app menu.

Go Launcher is another alternative if you want to change the font while you’re using the launcher.

How to change the font using Go Launcher

1. Tap on the three-dot menu located in the lower-right corner.
2. Tap on Go Settings.
3. Find the Font option and tap on it.
4. Click on Select Font.
5. Browse through the fonts available.
6. If you want more options, tap on the Scan font button.
7. Select the font you like and the app will automatically set it.

Note: Not all the fonts will work, and some will cause the launcher to crash.

Install a font app

The Google Play Store is home to countless of apps, and of course some of them claim to let you change the font on your phone.

However, in most cases for these apps to work you’ll need your Android device to be rooted. Or you need to have a Samsung device.

For example, apps like iFont or FontFix work on un-rooted Galaxy devices. Although to be able to take full advantage of them, it’s best to root.

Here’s how to change the font on your non-rooted Galaxy device with FontFix

1. Open the app on your Galaxy device.
2. Browse through the font options available.
3. Choose the one you want to install and tap on it.
4. Press the download button.
5. Read the instructions that pop up and then tap on “Continue”.
6. Another window will pop up, tap on “Install”.
7. Once again tap on “Install”.

1. Now, go to Settings>Display>Screen zoom and font and search for the font in question.
2. Tap on it and click on the Apply button in the right upper corner.
3. The font should be applied automatically, no restart required.

Note: Some fonts don’t work with un-rooted Galaxy devices, which will prompt the message “font is not supported”. Bottom line is, you’ll have to search quite a bit to find a supported font.

The second app we mentioned, iFont extends the “without-root” policy to Xioami and Huawei devices, as well. But what if you don’t have a phone from this companies? You might want to consider rooting after all.

There’s another app that gives you a taste of new fonts on your device. It’s called Font Changer, but it will not change your fonts per-se.

Instead, it will let you write phrases using different types of fonts, which you can easily copy/paste in other apps like WhatsApp or Android Messages.

Using a series of APKs, you can have access to 73 different fonts for free. And best of all, it doesn’t require root, just time and a good file browser.

Step 1: Download the Monofonts ZIP File

The file that makes it all possible is the ZIP file, “monofonts”, shared by XDA user JAMRZ69. You will find the ZIP file attached to the post linked below. Download this file onto your Galaxy.

Step 2: Extract the ZIP File

Since you will be working with a ZIP file, you will need to extract it first to reveal its contents. While you can technically move the file to your computer, extract it, then return to your phone, who has time for that.

Instead, just open Samsung’s pre-installed My Files app or any file browser with ZIP extraction capabilities. Open the file in the browser and choose “Extract.” Once extracted, a folder titled “monofonts” will appear in Download.

Step 3: Make the Fonts Accessible

In the “monofonts” folder is an APK file named “#mono_1.0.” Sideload this APK onto your Galaxy device. Once installed, move the “monofonts” folder to the internal storage.

Exit the file browser, and open the #mono_ app you just installed. Here, you will see a list of all 73 different custom fonts you can install. Select an APK and sideload the font. You can install as many as you want if you are unsure how each looks.

Step 4: Change to a Custom Font

Once installed, navigate to Settings –> Display –> Font size and style –> Font style. All the new fonts you installed will appear at the bottom of this list. Select the font you want and the system font will change. Use this menu to activate any font you installed. And if you want to try more, use the #mono_ app to install more fonts, making them accessible within “Font style.”

This method is not recommended by the developer, but you could use this if you want.

1. Download and install SamsungSans from Galaxy Apps: Download
2. Download and install the [latest] Wings Samsung 968 Fonts.apk from here: Download. Note: There will be a version which says ‘968‘; download that. Download the latest version of the APK file with the ‘968’. Also, there will be two different versions – one for Android Oreo and the other for Android Nougat. Download accordingly.
3. Go to Settings > Display > Screen zoom & font.
