If you have a PC infected with Advanced Virus Remover, you’ll probably find that this is a tough one to get rid of. Thankfully we’ve got the instructions to help you defeat this terrible virus.
Advanced Virus Remover is one of many fake antivirus applications like Antivirus Live or Internet Security 2010, which are really just rogue viruses that hold your computer hostage until you pay the ransom money. They tell you that your PC is infected with loads of viruses, even though it’s the only virus on your computer. The biggest problem with these things is that they block you from doing almost everything—you can’t use task manager, Safe Mode, or even install a real malware removal tool.
Advanced Virus Remover is Terrible!
This thing just covers your PC with messages about viruses that they claim you have…
There are popups, messages, and just dozens of windows that open…
Their goal, of course, is to get you to pay them.
Advanced Virus Remover is tricky… if you open an application more than once, it’ll block you from opening it again, preventing you from installing any anti-malware tools (I tried both SUPERAntiSpyware installed edition and MalwareBytes, no luck) Note that it also changes your wallpaper.
Advanced Virus Remover also prohibits you from heading into Safe Mode, where you at least might have a better chance of getting rid of it.
Removing Rogue Fake Antivirus Infections (General Guide)
There’s a couple of steps that you can generally follow to get rid of the majority of rogue antivirus infections, and actually most malware or spyware infections of any type. Here’s the quick steps:
- Try to use the free, portable version of SUPERAntiSpyware to remove the viruses.
- If that doesn’t work, reboot your PC into safe mode with networking (use F8 right before Windows starts to load)
- Reboot your PC and go back into safe mode with networking.
- If that doesn’t work, and safe mode is blocked, try running ComboFix. Note that I’ve not yet had to resort to this, but some of our readers have.
- Install MalwareBytes and run it, doing a full system scan. (see our previous article on how to use it).
- Reboot your PC again, and run a full scan using your normal Antivirus application (we recommend Microsoft Security Essentials).
- At this point your PC is usually clean.
Those are the rules that normally work. Note that there are some malware infections that not only block safe mode, but also prevent you from doing anything at all. We’ll cover those in another article soon, so make sure to subscribe to How-To Geek for updates (top of the page).
So, Let’s Remove Advanced Virus Remover!
Turns out that the answer to getting rid of this virus is really simple—you’ll just need to grab the free, Portable edition of SUPERAntiSpyware, which we’ve featured as our favorite must-have spyware removal tool, and put it on a flash drive (from another computer).
Then open it up on the PC, making sure to run the scan immediately. Don’t close it and re-open it, or Advanced Virus Remover will figure out what you’re doing and block you!
Once it’s all done, it’ll get rid of the bad stuff.
Then you’ll be prompted to reboot, which you should probably do.
If Advanced Virus Remover Blocks SUPERAntiSpyware
If you have an issue running SUPERAntiSpyware, you can try and use the following technique. Open up the Windows Run box with the Win+R shortcut key, or through the start menu. Then type in the following commands, hitting enter after each one.
taskkill /f /im winlogon86.exe
Note that this may or may not help… the goal is to try and shut down the processes that are blocking you, and malware changes filenames all the time. You can also open up Windows Explorer, head into the Windows\System32 folder, and try and locate the bad processes there (hit the properties screen on some recent, odd-looking files), then use the taskkill command to get rid of them. This technique is how I usually figure out what the virus is hiding under, so I can easily kill it with just a few keystrokes.
Cleanup the Leftovers!
Since I never like to fully trust a single anti-malware tool, I usually run multiple passes from multiple malware removal tools. I highly recommend running a second pass with the free edition of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. (see our previous article on how to use it).
You might notice some more messages popping up from the virus—in this case, my SUPERAntiSpyware definitions were out of date (because I wrote this article before the official portable version came out, so I was using my own hack to create a portable edition).
Just ignore any messages, and continue with the scan, letting Malwarebytes remove everything else.
At this point you’ll want to reboot your system, and then install Microsoft Security Essentials and run another full scan. Can’t hurt to be too cautious! We also highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for real-time protection against these types of things.
Note: If you used a thumb drive at any point during this process, you should make sure and scan that as well—I’ve had viruses hop over to the thumb drive, ready to infect the next machine.
Live Security Professional is rogue security software. Just like a computer virus, it may take over the computer and perform its tasks without your free will. Marketing the bogus product is the main goal of this malware. Through fake alerts and bogus warning, Live Security Professional attempts to persuade victims to purchase the registration code stating that it is needed to remove the threats.
Live Security Professional also blocks Internet access, while it gives a warning pointing that virus infection is the main cause. In the end, you will notice that this malware is forcing you to purchase the full version of Live Security Professional by pretending to be an antivirus program. Be advised that all viruses, Trojans, and other threats found by this rogue tool are unreal. Threats were revealed in order to persuade you to upgrade Live Security Professional to full version.
There is no doubt that having the Live Security Professional registration key will stop some irregularities on the computer. After all, it was made with that principle. The big question is will you be able to clean the computer with Live Security Professional full version? It is a rogue program, malware, or virus. Call it whatever you want. As long as it is present on the computer, system and other data in it are in danger. Thus, the only way to clean your PC is to remove Live Security Professional. There are certain methods to remove this malware but paying for the registration code is not a preference.

The Anitvirus Live program they talk about is truly one hell of a program.. It locks out the user completely from programs that would help remove it. It also locks down your internet browser only taking you to their fake website asking you to purchase their phoney program. The only way to remove it is to restart your computer and immediatly go to a restore program. DO NOT mess around, right when your computer goes to windows after restart just go to your restore program and go to a previously safe store date. That was the only way I was able to defeat the BS program. SOOO Frustrating but after 10 restarts, also disabling your internet connection once the virus takes hold bears no conviction. Good luck
im infected with antivirus live but its blocking any and every utility that may help in removing it. im essentially helpless and may have to wipe my hard drive unless theres anything else i can do
since last night my computer screen keeps coming up with this “anitvirus live”.
The program we have is Avast. My other computer keeps popping the “live” thing up to scan and I will not do it but it won’t let me do anything. Please help and let me know how to get rid of this
If there is also a number I can call later when I get home from work I’d appreciate it.
I tried this process, and the only thing that stops me from actually starting it, is the “antivirus live”. I cannot open task manager. antivirus opens up with the alert thing and shuts task manager down. great day.. >:(
I had to remove from one of my computers. it must be a newer version. file name was different. \”nnywsysguard.exe\”. it was probably renamed to throw people off searching for the exact name. I thought I would pass it along. GOOD LUCK!
can you please get this antivirus live off my computer please thank you
i don’t like ti at all thank you
You will find these same instructions all over the internet, but they are completely useless. Since “Antivirus Live” will not allow you to start task manager, so you can’t kill the process. Also you won’t be able to open “Regedit”, so editing the registry is not possible.
task manager is blocked
hi,i just wanted to thank the person or persons who publish these instructions on how to get rid of the antivirus live problem that i HAD! THANK YOU,THANK YOU!
I have two computers that one for sure is infected with Antivirus Live so badly that I can’t get to the internet to download the scanner. I can run the machine in Safe Mode, but still the Internet explorer won’t work. Is there a method of downloading to another drive and then installing via CD or DVD to the infected machine?
Had the problem. Here is a way to remove it that worked for me.
1. Right click on the desktop icon for the problem file and go to properties.
2. Click on ‘find target’ to locate the file. You will not be able to delete it!
3. Now select the “exe” file and change the file name. I changed the extension to “xxx”.
4. Now shut down your computer and reboot it.
5. Your computer should be working OK.
6. Now go to the location of the file you change the name of and you will be able to delete it. Delete the other two files too.
7. Run CCleaner, a free program that is very good at cleaning up your system. Be shre to scan your system and dieete all the files found. Then run the register tool and clean the registry too.
I think this will eliminate the problem. It did for me!

What is Windows Antivirus Rampart?
Windows Antivirus Rampart is a program that will not protect you from computer threats
Windows Antivirus Rampart is a fake antivirus program, a part of the FakeVimes family of rogue programs. Just like its previous versions, Windows Ultimate Security Patch, Windows Guard Tools, and others, it displays fake security notifications, disturbs the proper functioning of your legitimate programs, uses fake scanners, and does more things that damage your system.
| Name | Windows Antivirus Rampart |
| Type | Rogue antispyware, malware, scamware |
| Distribution | Fake updates for various programs and fake online scanners |
| Risks | Monetary losses, installation of other malware, identity theft |
| Removal | You can try to uninstall this program manually via the Control Panel or perform a full system scan with security software |
| System fix | Malware can cause serious issues after it is removed, resulting in system crashes and errors. To fix these problems automatically, use Reimage Intego |
In most cases, it enters computer systems after imitating some updates, like Adobe Acrobat, Java, Flash Player, or others. However, there could be other methods for its distribution, such as software bundlers, Trojan downloaders, software cracks, etc.
Once the malicious executable s launched, it is basically impossible to know when this scamware gets access to your machine and to stop it at the stage of infiltration. From this point in time, the program can take over the control of Windows.
Once installed, Windows Antivirus Rampart is configured to start automatically with each system reboot. The program pretends to look for infections on your system by running its fake scanner. In fact, this scareware cannot detect anything, so by the end of this scan imitation, the program generates a fake list of infections and tells to remove those files by getting a licensed version of the virus.
That is the way the comes for cybercriminals. Unfortunately, paying for this type of program does no good to us, ordinary computer users. You will simply lose your money and stay with the same problems on your system that you had. This rogue will continue running fake scans and disturb you in all possible ways.
Fake alerts are used to convince users to buy rogue anti-spyware
One of the most annoying things that rogue programs do is displaying tons of different security notifications providing completely false information. Some of the read:
Error
Keylogger activity detected. System information security is at risk.
It is recommended to activate protection and run a full system scan.
Error
Software without a digital signature detected.
Your system files are at risk. We strongly advise you to activate your protection.
As you see, they warn that your system is at risk because of some security-related issues. In fact, these alerts are completely fake, and they are only used to make you believe that your system is infected and pay for Windows Antivirus Rampart. Make sure you don’t get tricked by these fake alerts and get rid of the virus immediately!
Windows Antivirus Rampart removal steps
Do not trust this rogue under any circumstances. Use a reputable antispyware program to remove Windows Antivirus Rampart as soon as you detect it on your machine. Do not hesitate to do that straight after detecting this program on your machine, as it can cause even more damage over time.
As this malware disables your antivirus, ensure that your antivirus normally starts when you finalize cleaning your PC. The most effective way to do so is using anti-malware programs like SpyHunter 5 Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes. If you cannot start a scan in normal mode, access Safe Mode with Networking as explained below and then launch a scan immediately.
Finally, use Reimage Intego to clean your web browsers automatically and fix any type of damage that the system could have sustained due to the infection. Otherwise, you might have to reinstall Windows altogether.

Antivirus Live is the the latest Rouge spyware application released by the notorious company known as the Magic Software Mob. This program is not actually a spyware removal tool, as a matter of fact it is completely fake and a deadly virus. So to learn How to remove Antivirus Live From your PC continue reading the Antivirus Live Removal Guide Below.
You most likely got infected via a bunch of Vundo Trojans, which would’ve made there way on your system through untrusted downloads. i.e. You downloaded stuff from malicious websites or P2P Networks, which contained Trojans. Once the initial infection takes place, Antivirus Live is automatically installed on your system and it will start up every time you boot your Computer.
The virus is very dangerous, its sole purpose is to corrupt your machine, collect valuable info, steal your money, and possibly hijack your bank account details. It will display continuous pop-ups indicating your PC is full of spyware and malware, plus conduct periodic system scans to entice you into purchasing the full version. The full version is simply further malware, and whatever you DO NOT buy it, you could seriously harm your systems safety and privacy.
Now in order to remove Antivirus live from your system it is strongly recommended you use a proper spyware removal tool, as these programs are equipped with the proper tools to remove the virus completely and efficiently. You could attempt manual removal, i have outlined the process below, however it isn’t the best way to remove Vundo Trojan Viruses as their files have the ability to recreate themselves upon re-boot. So even if you do manage to delete all its files manually, the virus may simply reappear when you restart your PC.
Antivirus Live Manual removal Process:
Step 1: Use Windows Task Manager to Remove AntivirusLive Processes
%WINDOWS%\sysguard.exe
Step 2: Use Registry Editor to Remove AntivirusLive Registry Values
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AvScan
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\
Step 3: Use Windows Command Prompt to Unregister AntivirusLive DLL Files
%WINDOWS%\system32\iehelper.dll
Step 4: Detect and Delete Other AntivirusLive Files
%WINDOWS%\sysguard.exe
%WINDOWS%\system32\iehelper.dll
The procedure is rather cumbersome and complicated, it is only recommended for advanced users who know exactly what their doing as you will be dealing with critical system files. Deleting the wrong file could seriously harm your entire operating system.
Now considering the fact that manual removal isn’t even guaranteed, there isn’t much point in pursuing it, but you are free to give it a shot. The best way to completely remove the virus would be to use a proper spyware removal tool, plus you will enable real time protection so you will never have to worry about spyware again.
Therefore if you were wondering how to remove antivirus live from your system then i would strongly suggest you download a good anti-spyware program. You could attempt a manual antivirus live removal but nothing is guaranteed as the virus may simply re-animate itself upon re-boot. What is Antivirus Soft?
Antivirus Soft – a fake security tool that tries to trick you into spending money
Antivirus Soft is a rogue anti-virus program that gives false reports of threats and displays bogus pop-ups to make you think that your computer is infected with malware. This fake program is a clone of Antivirus Live, Antispyware Soft, and Antivirus System PRO malware.
Usually, such rogue programs come from various misleading websites, fake online scanners, but they can also be promoted on Facebook, MySpace, and similar websites. Once installed, it will ostensibly scan your computer for malware and display a variety of infections that can only be removed with a full version of the program.
Please don’t get tricked by this and don’t purchase it. Keep in mind that the scan results are absolutely false. This is nothing more but a scam. Please remove Antivirus Soft from your computer as soon as possible. Removal techniques and recovery methods are displayed at the bottom of the article.
| name | Antivirus Soft |
|---|---|
| Type | Rogue antispyware tool, PUP |
| Purpose | Push users to buy the licensed program version |
| Risks | PUP installation, malware infections, financial losses |
| Distribution | Trojans, freeware, software bundling, fake Flash Player updates, file-sharing platforms |
| Elimination | Perform a full system scan with dependable, time-proven anti-malware software to remove this fake tool along with any other unwelcomed guests |
| System repair | Repair any damage the infection caused to your system by running system diagnostics with the Reimage Intego tune-up tool |
Since Antivirus Soft is a fake security tool, the main risk that it induces is leaving your device unprotected, exposed to all kinds of malware, including worms, ransomware, keyloggers, etc. It wasn’t created to fight malware, only to imitate that and push you into purchasing its paid version.
When running, Anti-virus Soft will also display many fake security alerts and notifications. For example, you may see fake pop-ups with the following message:
And there is also an error message that states, “Application can not be executed”. This one will be displayed every time you try to launch an anti-spyware or anti-virus software. What is more, Antivirus Soft will change Internet Explorer’s settings.
A proxy server will be added under the LAN settings so that you cannot browse to any website other than the site for Antivirus Soft. As you can see, this virus is quite irritating. Unfortunately, you can’t remove it like a regular program. It won’t let you delete its files manually either.
To remove it once and for all, you have to reboot your device in Safe Mode with Networking and download and install Malwarebytes or SpyHunter 5 Combo Cleaner . Either of these free but trustworthy anti-malware tools will remove the fake tool automatically and provide you with proper protection against malware.
The article’s culprit is able to prevent you from opening AV tools by making various changes to your system settings and files. If these changes are left unattended, your device will exhibit all kinds of abnormal behavior. To avoid that, perform system diagnostics with the Reimage Intego system tune-up software.
Please don’t click on pop-ups stating that your Flash Player is outdated
Adobe is no longer supporting their Flash Player and urges all users to remove this software from all of their devices for security purposes. Cybercriminals are exploiting the lack of knowledge by distributing potentially unwanted programs or malware camouflaged as Flash player updates.
These fake updates usually contain adware, browser hijackers, Trojans, ransomware, and similar cyber threats. Thus if you ever see a pop-up suggesting that you need to update or install Flash Player, please don’t click on it, leave the site, and never go back to it.
Simple instructions to remove Antivirus Soft virus from infected computers
The removal process for this fake anti-malware software is a bit difficult, but with our guidelines, you’ll be finished in no time. First, reboot your Windows PC in Safe Mode with Networking and download a trustworthy security tool. After installing it, run a full system scan.
A proper anti-malware tool will automatically identify all threats, including Antivirus Soft, and remove them. Once that’s done, perform system diagnostics with compatible computer tune-up software to ensure that your device runs without any hiccups.
You may remove virus damage with a help of Reimage Intego . SpyHunter 5 Combo Cleaner and Malwarebytes are recommended to detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.

1. What is Antivirus Live?
Antivirus Live is a misleading application (not a virus) or fake Anti-virus program, which is not capable of eliminating computer viruses as promised. The only and main Antivirus Live goal is to make cash profit by cheating on user. Antivirus Live is from the same family as Antivirus Soft.
The main indication of Antivirus Live, that can also be observed in many other rogue programs, are false reports that the computer system is compromised, a misleading impression that Antivirus Live is recommended by Windows, changes in system registry so that the program would be launched every time OS is booted.
In order to convince the user that Antivirus Live is recommended by Windows, faked Security Center will be installed along with the program itself. Security Center can be found in Windows XP (beginning with Service Pack 2) and later versions. It is renamed the Action Center in Windows 7. Fake Windows Security Center looks the same as the original, even an icon in the Taskbar area is identical (a red shield), only Firewall, Windows Update, and Virus Protection sections advertise rogue Antivirus Live as a recommended solution towards computer security gaps.
Each fake anti-virus program, no exceptions for Antivirus Live, gives the impression that the computer is being checked for viruses and a report with assumingly found threat names is generated in the end. In order to remove found threats, user will be asked to buy a “licensed” version of Antivirus Live. Possessing a “full” version of the program will not help to clean computer from malware, the more your computer will not be protected.
Antivirus Live associated Trojans will also modify Internet Explorer settings so that no page will be permitted to open, except for Antivirus Live webpage, which is needed to carry out a transaction.
What to do if there is no internet connection?
- Launch Internet Explorer
- Go to Tools and then Internet Options
- Choose Connections tab
- Click on Lan settings
- Uncheck box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN
- Click OK to close current window
- Click OK to close Internet Options window
Trojans will block any application from being run, stating that they are infected, in order to avoid anti-spyware tool installation, which might remove the virus. Opening Task Manager will also result in ” Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software ” message. Before downloading Antivirus Live removal tool, malicious processes should be ended. The following guide will explain how to launch Task Manager.
To start Antivirus Live removal process:
- Go to Windows directory and open System32 folder (C:\Windows\system32).
- Rename file taskmgr.exe to iexplore.exe or taskmgr to iexplore if file extensions are hidden.
- Double-click renamed file iexplore or iexplore.exe . If you were able to open Task Manager go to Step5.
- If Task Manager still cannot be started, resulting in ” Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator ” message, go to Start ->Run, type in

3. How to remove Antivirus Live:
- Internet connection might be disabled or Internet browser might be blocked by Antivirus Live, so it won’t be possible to download any files to infected computer. In this case please download all files required for Antivirus Live removal to another computer and then transfer them on the infected one using CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
- To remove Antivirus Live download Spyware Doctor and install the program (for the installation guide click here). Before installation, make sure all other programs and windows are closed.
- After the installation, computer scan should be started automatically. If so, please move to the next step. If not, click “Status” on the left side menu and press “Scan Now” button to run computer scanner as shown in the picture below:
After the scan has been completed and scan results have been generated, press “Fix Checked” button to remove Antivirus Live.
Antivirus Live is the latest rogue anti-spyware application, which was designed to attempt to dupe unsuspecting PC users into believing their dubious tactics to be true, and ultimately persuade them into purchasing the full version of this nefarious application.
Antivirus Live, also known as Antivirus Live, is believed to be a replica of the rogue program: Antivirus System Pro.
Antivirus Live usually spreads by using browser hijackers to redirect the user to websites hosting fake online system scans and thus tricking him into downloading the program.
As is typical of rogue anti-spyware software like this, Antivirus Live doesn’t deviate much from the typical and most widely practiced tactics of PC parasite infiltration. Antivirus Live tends to also make use of affiliated backdoor Trojan infections, usually Trojan Vundo or Zlob, in order to ensure hidden penetration into the targeted machine is successful.
Once inside the designated system, Antivirus Live will obscurely create hundreds of fake malware entities in the infiltrated system. Once this is done, Virus Remover Professional will then “detect” these dummy files and ensure the unsuspecting user, you, think it’s high time you removed all the reported malware.
Antivirus Lives’ malicious trialware usually runs each time you log onto Windows and will display its fake system scanner that claims to find a variety of corrupted dangerous files.
As a well-practiced tactic, Antivirus Live will have you believe that in order to protect your Operating System against these “detections”, you will be prompted to install Antivirus Live full commercial version which demands payment.
Antivirus Live has the following properties:
– Changes browser settings
– Shows commercial adverts
– Stays resident in background
If you do install Antivirus Live licensed software, you will soon realize that it’s not only worthless in terms of malware removal, but it compromises any computer systems’ performance and will eventually slow down the computer considerably.
One should remove the Antivirus Live rogue anti-spyware application as soon as it has been detected.
A system that has been infected with Antivirus Live may tend to display the following basic symptoms, which a computer user should look out for:
• Slow computer performance:
It just takes one parasite like Antivirus Live to slow down a computer dramatically. If your PC takes longer than usual to reboot, or if your Internet connection is unusually slow, you may be infected with Antivirus Live.
• New desktop shortcuts or switched homepage:
Badware like Antivirus Live may change your Internet settings to redirect your homepage to another website. Badware can even add desktop shortcuts to your PC. It is also not uncommon for this type of malware to change legitimate websites, such as and use them to further create the illusion that your system is I danger – by adding aggressive advertising to the homepage you will be directed to.
• Annoying pop-up messages:
Badware can bombard your computer with popup ads, even when you’re not online. Through these pop-up messages, you may be tricked into downloading more spyware.
Manual removal is probably your best bet at maintaining the integrity of your computer, but manual removal should only be tried by those individuals that know a bit about registry files, and should be left to the individual who knows how to navigate their way around system files.
All in all though, I would recommend, especially if you are not completely tech savvy, to make use of a reliable and legitimate, fully functional, up-to-date anti-spyware application, to remove Antivirus Live and all its components from the infected computer system.
Live Enterprise Suite is a dangerous rogue anti-spyware that “detects” legitimate Windows files as infections and additionally offers its paid services for removing them. LiveEnterpriseSuite was released by the same scammers who should be blamed for letting Ghost Antivirus and Internet Antivirus Pro outside, so just like the first ones, it uses aggressive techniques to make it difficult to remove. TDL3 rootkit is also connected to this rogue anti-spyware that makes it even harder to remove, so if you have already found Live Enterprise Suite on your computer you should IMMEDIATELY use a reputable anti-spyware for elimination.
Live Enterprise Suite is promoted through the use of malware and fake online anti-malware scanners. If it is installed successfully, the first thing this program will do is disable of Task Manager so that you would not be allowed to stop its processes. Live Enterprise Suite installs various malware as well and cleverly creates it in random paths under the Windows folder. These actions will constantly terminate Explorer.exe or other executables with a reason to make people completely lost when they will try to access Windows desktop or any other program on it.
Periodic system scanners are automatically loaded by Live Enterprise Suite when PC boots up. This rogue anti-spyware reports tons of supposed infections and tells that they will be “removed” only after people first purchase the program. These infections, though, just like numerous security alerts announcing about the critical level of PC protection are invented by LiveEnterpriseSuite. Some of them are known to be legitimate Windows files, so if removed they can even affect a normal Windows functionality.
Please keep in mind that Live Enterprise Suite is a dangerous application which needs to be eliminated as soon as possible. Ignore its security alerts because they are fake and don’t think about making a purchase of this scam. It goes without saying that you MUST contact your credit card company to dispute the charges if you have already paid for it. An don’t forget to delete Live Enterprise Suite immediately after noticing its misleading activity on your computer.
On middle May 2010, Live Enterprise Suite was replaced by Live Security Suite. The owners are more or less the same, and rogue got a new facelift. Both Live Enterprise Suite and Live Security Suite should be removed.

Thusfun.live sites are a group of malicious websites that show fake virus warnings to visitors. This is not meant as a prank, but rather, it’s supposed to convince people to buy useless Mac optimizers by promising that they’ll remove the “viruses”.

When you enter the Thusfun site, it first displays a warning:
VIRUS FOUND
A website you visited today has infected your Mac with a virus.
Press OK to begin the repair process.
And then, if you click “close”, it shows a webpage with an imitation of a Mac OS window with the title “VIRUS FOUND” and this text:
A website you have visited today hasinfected your Mac with a virus. A full system scan is now required to find and remove harmful files or applications from your Mac OS X device.
Then Thusfun lists some information like your IP address, the version of your browser, your operating system, and your location – nothing special, any website can capture this; and at the bottom – a “Scan Now” button.
Thusfun is not to be trusted, it’s just a simple scam site:
How to stop Thusfun warnings
If you only saw a Thusfun warning once, that’s probably just a malicious ad. It would be good to get some web-protection, maybe an ad-blocker that would stop Thusfun and other known dangerous sites from loading. It’s also important to update your browser, your antivirus program, and other software to make sure that they’re not vulnerable against malicious sites.
Malicious advertisements lurk on shady sites and there is not much you can do besides avoiding those sites. It’s impossible to block all the malicious pages, so be careful.
However, if Thusfun is loading regularly, and especially if it’s opened by pop-ups in your Mac’s desktop, time to check your computer for malware. Open the Applications folder and see if any malicious programs are lurking there and drag them to Trash. Don’t forget to check your browser extensions and consider clearing browser data.
It would be useful to scan your computer with an anti-malware program like Combo Cleaner to see if any malicious files remain in, for example, the Library folders. Delete those files and this should get rid of any possible causes of the pop-ups on your computer.
If you ended up downloading whatever program Thusfun wanted you to get to “remove the viruses”, it’s better to remove it – the “Advanced Mac Cleaner” application stands for Smart Mac Booster, Super Mac Cleaner, or another PUP.
Danger of Thusfun virus warnings
Thusfun websites have URLs that look like this (there are plenty more than listed here):
- best1495.thusfun28.live,
- aps2853.thusfun33.live,
- competition1500.thusfun41.live,
- play9727.thusfun82.live,
- play6148.thusfun95.live,
- game2570.tusfun100.live.
They’re usually recognized by a few antivirus programs, so if you have web protection, Thusfun sites should be blocked. For a good reason – these sites target Mac users with a type of a tech support scam and can cost victims real money, time, and cause unnecessary stress.
Everyone, including young people and those who believe in their own abilities to use a computer, is vulnerable to tech support scams and end up wasting time with tech support scams like ones that Thusfun spreads. According to this Microsoft report, over 50% of people from 18 to 37 years old experienced fake pop-up and/or redirect virus alerts and some of those people go on to lose money to the scam, so sites like Thusfun are a huge problem to online safety and to your wallet.
Mac computers are not safe – even though they are not vulnerable to some types of malware that plague Windows PCs, cybercriminals always find a way to take advantage of innocent users and rob them of their hard-earned money. Social engineering can be just as powerful as clever coding when it comes to getting access to users’ computers or their wallets.
How Thusfun fake virus warnings work
Thusfun and other malicious sites are almost impossible to avoid completely, but just because you encounter one, that doesn’t mean that your security is compromised. In fact, if you just ignore the warning and close it, you can continue browsing and not worry about it.
There are a lot of things that reveal Thusfun as being a fake virus warning. For one, the URL is not official at all and clearly not associated with Apple. Though Thusfun tries to make its warning look like it’s coming from official Apple support, it clearly has nothing to do with it.
Then, if you allow Thusfun to “scan” your computer, it’ll pretend to do that lightning-fast. This is physically impossible, not to mention that Thusfun.live are websites – they can’t scan your computer because they don’t have access ot your files.
Close Thusfun by closing the current browser tab by holding Cmd and W keyboard buttons. Or you can force-quit the browser by pressing Cmd+Alt+Esc and quit the browser from there. Thusfun is very similar to FunnyMonday, Checkingforward, and other scam sites and they should all be dealt with by ignoring them and dismissing their warnings.

It is possible to get a virus on your iphone. In this article we’ll take a look at the different ways you might get a virus on your iphone, along with a number of solutions to remove viruses as well. These solutions include everything from deleting apps and resetting data to performing a factory reset.
How iPhones Get Viruses
It’s possible to get a virus on your phone by downloading apps from malicious developers or clicking links to websites you don’t recognize.
While malware and viruses like these are rare, they do exist, and you should know what to do if you encounter one.
Here are some of the most common sources:
Phone Viruses from Third-Party Applications
The most frequent way iPhones become infected with viruses is through malicious third-party apps downloaded outside the App Store. This scenario usually applies to jailbroken iPhones with no software restrictions. If you have safe iOS firmware that hasn’t been tampered with, and you’re using the App Store, it is unlikely that you will ever download a malicious application.
iPhone Viruses from Malicious Websites
In addition to unregistered apps, visiting malicious websites is another way to compromise your iphone’s security. These sites can exploit vulnerabilities in your phone’s mobile browser (e.g., Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge) and in the iOS itself, tricking you into installing malicious and infected files.
iPhone Viruses from iMessages
Hackers may also try to send viruses and other malware through iMessage. Often the message will appear to be urgent or important, and the text will encourage you to click a strange link to claim a prize or resolve some concern. If you do, your phone can become vulnerable to whatever is on that website’s server, such as malvertising (the use of online advertisements to spread malicious files) or fake application forms aiming to gather personal information and financial details.

Do you need McAfee?
McAfee is an antivirus and anti-malware program that is designed to protect you from exploits on the internet. The internet is full of hackers and cybercriminals who may attempt to launch a cyberattack at you. If you are victimized with malware, ransomware, a trojan, a worm, or any other kind of exploit, your data could be stolen by hackers.
Under the worst circumstances, the hacker could take over your entire machine and turn on the cameras or microphone to snoop on you. They could also steal all your data to perform identity theft or break into your bank account.
These threats are very serious, and it is absolutely imperative that you protect yourself against them, either with McAfee or some other antivirus program. Which antivirus you decide to install and use is completely up to you. However, we strongly recommend that you get an up-to-date service that provides real time, active malware protection.
Using the internet without an antivirus is a very risky endeavor, and it is much better to use McAfee than no antivirus at all. Overall, McAfee is considered an excellent antivirus program. Admittedly, some people may consider McAfee a little pricey – and it is possible to get similar protection for less. Thus, the choice is yours.
Below are some key advantages of McAfee antivirus, which if purchased using the Total Protection package comes with a lot of extra features:
- Protect against all kinds of exploits
- Real time web protection
- Identity theft protection
- Password manager
- Safe browsing
- Parental tools
- Encrypted storage
What is a good alternative to McAfee?
If you have decided to uninstall McAfee from your computer, it is essential that you choose one of the best antivirus programs.
Using the internet exposes you to a multitude of threats and exploits, and it is extremely dangerous to proceed without an up-to-date antivirus that regularly scans for exploits and does real-time monitoring to prevent you from visiting malicious websites and downloading harmful files.
So what should you replace McAfee with?
In our opinion, VIPRE Antivirus is a superb antivirus program that has everything you need to keep your devices safe. The program is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, and it is excellent at detecting and removing malware, ransomware, trojans, spyware, and viruses.
We love VIPRE Antivirus because it provides real-time scanning, a smart firewall, and it is low on system resources. This means that you can use the program to prevent infections without fear that it will make your computer come to a grinding halt.
VIPRE is a superb alternative to McAfee in our opinion because it is effective and provides excellent value for money. So, if you want an antivirus that will give you complete peace of mind, click the link below to find out more.

Short bio
Rogue scanners, also known as fake scanners, fake AV, or rogueware, are pieces of code injected into legitimate sites or housed in fake sites. Their social engineering tactic normally involve displaying fictitious security scan results, threat notices, and other deceptive tactics in an effort to manipulate users into purchasing fake security software or licenses in order to remove potential threats that have supposedly infected their systems. Their warnings were deliberately crafted to closely resemble interfaces of legitimate AV or anti-malware software, further increasing the likelihood that users who see them will fall for the ploy. These malware can target and affect PCs and Mac systems alike. In 2011, known names in the security industry have noted the dramatic decline of rogue scanners, both in detection of new variants and search engine results for their solutions.
Rogueware is one of two main classes of scareware. The other is ransomware. Rogue scanners are not as apparent as they used to be several years ago. It is believed that ransomware has completely replaced rogue scanners altogether.
History
The history of rogue scanners is quite murky; however, the first noted application deemed as fake AV is Spy Wiper, which surfaced in November of 2003. It was deemed a super rogue, as it was capable of modifying some of the affected system’s browser settings, bombarding users with pop-up ads, and tracking computer usage—tactics that may have been occurring less during those time.
The advent of rogue scanners may have also been the budding years of miscreants monetizing on un-savvy end users.
Common infection method
Rogue scanners are often distributed via affiliate networks known to supply other malware types like Trojan kits. Social engineering tactics are then used to get users to download them onto user systems. Online criminals behind such malware campaigns are also known to use three known vectors of infection: Black Hat SEO (BHSEO), malvertising, and spam campaigns.
During a BHSEO campaign, pages housing rogue scanners are promoted to higher ranks in search engine results due to them being full of popular keywords. These keywords are derived from services that display hot topics in near real-time results. Criminals can program PHP scripts to retrieve those keywords and use them in creating infected webpages. Some malicious results can be images.
Legitimate websites that may not be compromised can also be used by criminals to drop their rogue scanners via third-party advertising. In this case, advertisers are compromised to redirect users to rogue scanner downloads once users click ads appearing on these legitimate sites. This is basic malvertising as we know it today.
Lastly, spam campaigns are probably the oldest vector among the three. Rogue scanners can be attached to email or included in the message body as a link, resulting in a drive-by download after user clicks it. Usually when a drive-by download happens, users are unaware that malware is already being introduced to their system. Some known email types that harbor rogue scanners are those that pretend to be regular, daily emails, such as supposed parcel deliveries and tax documents.
Associated families
To date, there are hundreds of rogue scanner variants that have been found and detected during its six-year reign from 2008 to 2014. For the sake of brevity, we have only noted three of the most-prevalent and interesting families that have plagued users:
- WinWebSec: This is a rogue scanner family that uses misleading alerts that mimic logos and interface designs from known companies, particularly Microsoft. Examples of some names are Live Security Platinum, Smart Protection, and Win XP Security System. In 2009, some variants of WinWebSec were found to drop malware that allow affected systems to be part of a botnet.
- Chameleon (FakeRean): This is a rogue scanner family that is found to drop variants of notorious worm families like Bredolab for its payload after successfully infiltrating user systems.
- FakeScanti: This is a sophisticated rogue scanner family that acts like a spyware. It arrives on systems via software vulnerabilities. Sometimes, it’s bundled with Trojan rootkits. Another payload for this family is the displaying of unwanted advertisements.
Remediation
If end users find their systems affected with rogue scanners/fake AV, it is important that they refrain from paying for software advertised or pushed by the malware. Instead, users must retrieve a copy of legitimate AV software from a clean system and introduce it to the affected systems via a USB stick or other third-party means. The AV software can be manually installed and run onto the affected system. As a result, any dropped files and registry modifications made by the malware are removed.
Aftermath
Once a system is infected with a rogue scanner or fake AV, the program may perform the following actions:
- Displaying prompts of either purported system infection or pornography
- Displaying animations of purported system crashes and reboots
- Disabling some features of the affected system in order to prevent the user from uninstalling the malware, to prevent security software from running, to disable certain updates, and to block certain online sites from getting accessed, consequently leaving the affected system open for other possible infection
- Modifying system registries and settings
- Enticing users into purchasing their product and then claiming that a portion of the sales will be given to charity. The Green rogue scanner does this.
- Employing general scareware tactics, offering urgent computer fixes and housekeeping, and popping up security alerts similar to actual system notices in order to scare users
Avoidance
Thankfully, most sites introduced with rogue scanner code are benign once users visit them. As such, users who have discerned the fake prompts can simply close the browser tab of the site they visited. They don’t have to click anything on the affected page.
The criminals behind rogue scanners/fake AV heavily rely on users’ unfamiliarity with legitimate software. As such, it is essential that users acquaint themselves with old and new tactics of rogue malware as well as differentiate between legitimate software and non-legitimate ones.
