Google Nest devices are one of the most popular smart devices available in the market. With Google Assistant support built-in, users can perform various actions such as set reminders and make calls.
Many also use their Nest devices to find and cook their favorite recipes since they support step-by-step cooking instructions.
Assistant can even read the ingredients you need for your recipe by simply saying “Hey Google, prepare the ingredients.” Similarly, users can also listen to different steps of a recipe using voice commands.
However, recent reports from Nest users suggest that the next step recipe command is not working as intended.
Whenever they ask for the next step, the Assistant says that it did not understand or finds tries to find a recipe with ‘ingredient’ in the title.
When using Google Home Mini to cook, it has become pretty useless. I send the recipe from my phone, it starts to read it, gets through the first step or ingredient, can continue on to the next if I ask before it stops listening. But if it stops listening, when I then say “Ok/Hey Google, next ingredient” it either doesn’t understand, or finds a recipe with the word “ingredient” in the title. If I say “Ok/Hey Google, next step” it finds Places with the word “next” or “step” in the title. This has been going on for months now, with both of my speakers.

Thankfully, a Community Special commented on the issue and said that they are aware of the Nest recipes next step command is not working right now. Unfortunately, there is no ETA on when it will be fixed.
Hi there,
Apologies for the wait here, but appreciate your patience. The issues with Recipes and Commands are bug issues that we are aware of and our engineering team are working on a resolution for. We appreciate the wait and while we don’t have an ETA on this, please let us know if you are still experiencing an issue with this.

That being said, a month has passed by and there is no update from Google regarding the matter, so we will be tabs on developments on the issue and update this space when a fix is out.
