Nicole Gillen-Felker, 47, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, October 26, 2023, at her residence in Harding, Pennsylvania.

Nicole was the cherished daughter of Michael and Susan Gillen. She attended Pittston High School, graduating in 1994, and went on to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Luzerne University’s Nursing Program in 1998 and had devoted 25 tireless years to her nursing career.

She is survived by her loving husband, Andrew Felker, and their three sons, Michael, Kevin, and Brian. In addition, Nicole was continuously supported by her sister Michelle and brother Steven, especially during her battle with a severe illness.

A wake service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a prayer service for Nicole’s soul at 8 p.m., officiated by Bishop John Sempa at Corpus Christi Church. A private burial ceremony will take place on Thursday morning.

Who was Nicole Gillen?

Born in Syracuse, New York, Nicole Gillen was the daughter of Philip Gillen and the late Victoria Treadwell Gillen. She graduated from Susquehanna Valley High School.

Following high school, Nicole attended Elmira College and Corning Community College, where she received an associate degree in Criminal Justice. She then went on to graduate from the American National University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, specializing in Business. Nicole also took courses at Broome Community College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice and Juvenile Justice, also with a focus on Business. Finally, she graduated from Misericordia University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

In her leisure time, Nicole cherished spending quality moments with her family. She was particularly fond of her daughter Ember, who was the light of her life. The mother-daughter duo enjoyed ATV riding and indulging in girly activities like make-up and hairstyling. Nicole also had her own sense of humor, which her family greatly admired.

Professionally, Nicole took immense pride in delivering exceptional support services for veterans, ensuring they received quality and timely care. Before becoming an advocate for patients, she served as a Federal Police Sergeant at the Veterans’ Medical Center in Plains Twp.

As a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Nicole will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, colleagues, and the veterans’ community.

She is survived by her husband Albert Felker and daughter Ember at home; step-children Amdis and Caley Felker in Harding; brother Jeff Gillen (wife Fran) in Windsor, NY; sister Michelle Gillen in Pittsburgh; and numerous other relatives.

Nicole will forever be memorialized as a strong yet compassionate woman, mother, and warrior.
