Director Josh Greenbaum’s recently bombed comedy film Strays follows the story of an abandoned dog and how he plans with his newly found stray dog friends and puts into action a revenge plan against his toxic previous owners. Let us look deeper at the movie and its different filming locations.

With writer Dan Perrault as the screenplay writer, the movie follows the story of dogs and has, for the same reason, no famous face visible on screen, though fans could surely point out a few familiar voices. The makers managed to cast Will Ferrell to voice Reggie and Jamie Foxx to voice Bug, the two main dogs.

Other voices in the film include those of Isla Fisher, Randall Park, Rob Riggle, Sofia Vergera, David Herman, Phil Morris, and Greta Lee. The humans in the films have been played by actors Will Forte, Brett Gelman, Dan Perrault, the film’s screenwriter, and lastly, Dennis Quaid.

With a budget of almost forty-six million dollars, the movie struggled to scrape and collect around twenty-eight million dollars as its gross earnings, considering it tanked badly, with critics and fans struggling to find it hilarious.

The movie comes from a place of good intentions and a big heart; the premise is clean and easy to grasp, and the comedy is as raunchy as possible. The comedic timing mostly hits well, with the humor dripping in double-meaning jokes and crude one-liners.

While it may be full of funny jokes that will probably get a chuckle out of you here and there, the movie fails to hit the right spot and be boldly funny. The story ends up being more wholesome than ridiculously rib-tickling.

Strays Filming Locations

If you are creepily obsessed with four-legged fur canines and their non-stop tail wagging and have always wanted them to share jokes with you, then we think this heartwarming and mildly funny movie might be the one for your next movie night. Before you run off to catch the movie, let us tell you, in depth, about all the places where Strays was filmed.

Atlanta, Georgia, United States

This adult comedy film revolved around the revenge of local dogs and was supposed to be released a bit earlier than its current release date. As the movie’s makers have revealed, the film has been filming since September 2021 in Atlanta City, Georgia.

Called the “city of trees,” the city was the perfect location for such a movie. It ticked off all of the requirements of the producers, who were looking for a city lined with long trails of trees and huge parks, a perfect spot for abandoned dogs, to be.

The filmmakers moved around the city searching for perfect spots for Reggie and his friends to kick off their adventure. Considering that the movie mostly has trees as its backdrop, it gets slightly difficult to guess where the scenes were shot.

Some of the sub-urban scenes were filmed in Kirkwood, a neighborhood located ten miles east of Atlanta that could be recognized by fans who saw the movie. Another beautiful place featured in the movie was Stone Mountain in Georgia, ten miles northeast of Atlanta.

The village of Stone Mountain is a pretty enough place to have been featured in several popular pieces, including Stranger Things, The Three Stooges, and Sleepy Hollow. If you have seen the film Strays, you would know about the eagle snatching scene, which was also shot inside this three thousand acres of Stone Mountain Park.

Another memorable scene where Reggie and his band of misfit friends were all walking together was also shot at the Stone Mountain Railroad Tracks, a scenic place that was, at some point, a railway town. Parts of the movie were also filmed in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia.
