☰ KEY HIGHLIGHTS Apple TV's hit period drama, The Buccaneers, is soon about to come to an end and we are not ready for it at all. With episode six almost here, fans are excited to know who's going to end up with who and just what twists await us.

Katherine Jakeways recently launched a period series titled The Buccaneers, which she revealed to be based on author Edith Wharton’s incomplete novel, which was eventually published after her death in 1938. The series follows the story that gets kickstarted with the arrival of American women in London, setting the story around the cultural differences that exist between the two groups.

The story is set sometime during the 1870s when a group of young American women was sent off to the city of London to fetch rich husbands and respectable titles. Not used to the tight corsets and strict traditions, the show takes us on an intriguing journey revealing the clash of Anglo-American cultural differences.

The series stars Kristine Froseth as Annabel St. George, Alisha Boe as Conchita Closson, Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable, Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmsworth, Josie Totah as Mable Elmsworth, Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable, and Guy Remmers as Theo among others from the long list of characters.

With a total of eight confirmed episodes, the show is being produced by Apple TV+ and has been undergoing the making process since 2022. The wild yet gorgeous American women are in England with a mission: to get a handsome hunk with riches so that they can become a perfect match and finally get their English governesses off their backs.

Fans who enjoy drowning themselves in period dramas would definitely love the series for its historic vibe, unapologetic feminist nature, and the way it could not be more true to the time it is set in.

The differences between American and English women and the struggles they go through while adjusting to each other’s presence are a treat to watch.

The show, The Buccaneers, is directed by Susannah White and, overall, has the brains of multiple women working behind the scenes who are making the series such an entertaining piece. The plot of the series revolves heavily around the female characters, and we are not complaining at all.

Recap

The fifth episode of the show, which came out on November 22nd, 2023, was a twisted ride with so much happening throughout. Our man Guy did his best not to let his lack of money slip, which got him to host a bonfire night at his residence.

It is here that Theo ends up bringing Jean in hopes of setting her up with Guy Thwarte. The torch finding in the hedge maze led to Nan discovering Guy’s romantic telegram while Jinny and Lizzy came back together and gave their friendship another chance.

Conchita confessed her feelings about Guy to Nan, now that the former was living away from Richard. But Guy has eyes for Nan, and Theo is bent on getting the two together, even confronting him at the poker game in front of Nan.

The upcoming sixth episode, titled “It’s Christmas,” will have the group move to Scotland for celebrations and a getaway. A lot of things will unfold throughout their trip, with Lizzy making a confession and Nan being forced to make a tough decision about her love life.
