On Thursday, 7th Dec., The Spanish football federation named Luis de la Fuente as the new coach of the national team after Luis Enrique stepped down from the role.

Who Is Luis De La Fuente?

Luis De La Fuente is a Spanish football manager and former professional player. He played as a left-back from the 1980s to the and is the manager of the Spain national team.

Luis De La Fuente has played with the teams Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla and ended his playing career in the mid-90s with a total of 254 matches and six goals over 13 seasons. 

Who Is Luis De La Fuente?

Fuente began his coaching career after ending his professional career and he join the Spanish youth national team as a coach and served for a decade. 

Fuente was appointed as the head coach of Athletic Bilbao’s B team and become the head coach at Alavés in 2011.

De La Fuente is an employer of the RFEF and coaches the Under-19, and Under-21 teams, and guided the team to win the silver medal at the Olympics in 2021.

Luis De La Fuente Named Spain’s New National Team Coach

The Spanish football federation named Luis de la Fuente as the new coach on Thursday after the resignation of Luis Enrique from the FIFA World Cup.

Luis de la Fuente’s elevation was announced after completing FIFA World Cup in Qatar after defeating the 2010 champion at the last 16 stages and his appointment will be ratified next week by the federation’s board of directors.

RFEF (Spanish football association) said in a statement-

“The new coach will make his debut in March for Euro 2024 qualifiers, taking charge of his first games against Norway and Scotland.”
