Colombian music artist Maluma has deleted his Instagram account supposedly in response to beef with football star Neymar.
While many are often critical of social media, the various platforms we use today have proven so popular because they allow us to get closer to our favourite celebrities than ever before.
However, this means that when a celebrity posts something worrying or deletes their account, it can leave fans hugely concerned.
That’s exactly the case for Colombian music artist, Maluma, after he recently deleted his Instagram account which boasted over 52 million followers as of August 2020.
But just why has the 26-year-old Maluma deleted his Instagram account and what does Brazilian football star Neymar have to do with it?
Maluma deletes instagram
On August 19th, fans of the Colombian music artist Maluma discovered that the 26-year-old had deleted his Instagram account, which boasted over 52 million followers at the time it was taken down.
Fans instantly became worried and even Maluma’s own management company questioned the move with WK Entertainment asking the question “Does anyone know what happened to Maluma’s Instagram?” on their own Instagram account.
Page Six has reported that a source has said the Colombian is “good and safe” but that “no one knows why he deactivated it.”
However, Page Six did link Maluma taking down his Instagram to a recent video which was posted to Angel Di Maria’s Instagram story of Brazilian football star, Neymar, singing along to one of Maluma’s songs.
Maluma deleted his Instagram account after this video of Neymar singing Hawái, a song dedicated to Natalia, Maluma’s ex/ Neymar’s current girlfriend, was posted on Di Maria’s stories. 😳

What’s the beef with Neymar?
Many have speculated that the choice of song in Angel Di Maria’s video and the fact that Neymar was among those singing is the reason behind Maluma’s disappearance from Instagram.
That’s because the song we hear being sung is Maluma’s new single Hawái which is hugely significant as many suspect that the song is about Maluma’s ex-girlfriend, Natalia Barulich, and her new relationship with none other than Neymar.
The fact we see Neymar singing along to the song which is rumoured to be about him and his newfound girlfriend has been described as a diss of Maluma by the likes of Just Jared and Page Six.
It’s unclear whether Maluma’s Instagram account will be gone for good or if it’s only temporarily been deleted.
What is certain, however, is that Neymar and his PSG teammates will be taking on Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on Sunday, August 23rd.
